It's funny you ask about shooting "thick" because it is the one setting I didn't play with in this file. But I'm going to shoot some east coach beach footage this weekend and I will try to play around with the detail.

You can achieve a cool look by white balancing on a warm card. Just thought Id throw that out there.

This is exactly what I've been looking for. :D

It gives me that thought that if you basically reverse the settings, would that give it more of a "warm" feeling?

Hi NCJE,
Could you say what colour of card would represent a "Warm" colour, and is it possible to cive a "Warm" look by white balancing on a "Cold" card (OK I might be way off on that, but I don't have a handle on what colours are Warm n Cold)

Thanks

Thats exactly the principle. Warm cards are actually light bluish.. so when you white balance on them the cam sees that as white and compensates by warming up the image. Conversley you could do the reverse by white balancing on a warm color to get a cold bluish look.

Really you can white balance against any color for variations... just try some different colors and see if a look comes up you like.

forgive me if this is a stupid question: What is the purpose of white balancing on a so called warm/cold card when you could adjust the colors inside the camera (dvx100a) or do it in post?

I feel really embarassed asking this because I think I used to know... but how do I set the white balance settings A and B back to their standard presets? I've been messing around with warm and cool cards lately, and now I can't remember how to reset them. Please help!

A & B have no standard setting. The PRST has built-in 3.2k and 5.6k settings, but the A and B are whatever you want to set them to. There is no such thing as a default for them, because it's all relative to the current light conditions.

Don't do in post what you could do in camera because you're messing with the data all the time. Keep it nice and fresh.

Yeah, I realized this a little while before you posted. But thanks for clearing it up for me, Barry. (I still feel like a goof)
