NEW Rode Blimp fits most shotguns.

There is a lot of science and technology behind windshields which you need to understand to get it right (yes, I know Rycote's designer quite well).

Not that much, it's not exactly rocket science. The general $$$ price of zeppelin's is because the market has been so small. The shock mount is a different matter and could be a real deal breaker on the Rode.

The shock mount is shown on the data sheet. Of course RODE are confident it works Ok.
I'll have one in a few days.

Cheers.

Sorry I should have been more clear. I don't mean to imply it's no good just that I haven't heard any reports on it and if it is not so great that sort of kills the zep even if the wind protection is great. Also though there isn't all that tricky to build a decent zep it is tricky to build a shockmount worth the name.

OT: So the lyres from Rycote seem to be the best and the most cost effective solution? As I type this Rycote will be implementing the lyres even in the high end systems.

Well the shock mount looks like the same as the Rycote, which should be pretty good and at 1/2 the price it looks like a very good deal.

I couldn't get back straight away Noiz2, no I read that as a statement not a crit :)

Spartacus: the removable fur is the last defence against a big wind. With my Rycote kit 3 fully rigged the wind was so bad we had to hold the tripod down but we could barely hear the wind. The audio response suffered somewhat, but anything to save a shoot.

You have to judge it, watching the trees blow sideways listening to location 100% narration, some wind can add to the show. After the good take, record some wind tone for post.

The new RODE blimp will be shipping shortly.

Cheers.

 I`ve shot extensively in windy situations with zep and fur.
Since I´m a camera person, and not the audio guy, I was just wondering if you better take the fur off in low/no wind situations outside, which you couldn´t do with the S-series...

Rycote have ditched that sort of suspension now as it is expensive and nowhere near as effective as the new "Lyre" suspensions.

All new basket windshield kits now come with "Lyre" suspensions as standard and now include the ConnBox 1 Mk.II at the same price.

Owners of existing kits can get upgrade kits to the new "Lyre" suspensions.

I will not use any elastic suspensions any more as the "Lyre" outperforms elastic considerably.

I am already changing all my suspensions over to the InVision series for standmount use and will change the stereo suspension on my Rycote MKH 30/40 kit as soon as they get them out.

The "Lyre" is well patented, so that should stop the copyists - for a while anyway.

Normally yes - but I would rather use an S-series than any other zep. with inferior shock protection.

So soon we'll be seeing lots of DIY projects converting Invision 7 mounts to full zeppelins ;) as the Inv 7 costs only 70 USD or something.

I talked to Rode UK representative few days ago and he told it would take 6 weeks before it ships.

I should have one off a production run next week.

All markets will receive their shipments as soon as possible, some earlier than others.

RODE doesn't ship anything from stock, everything goes straight out to the dealers.

Cheers.

My RODE Blimp has arrived and works as advertised, all the fittings are well balanced and it takes 90secs to fit it all together with the dead Wombat (fur windscreen) That is after you've rigged your selected mic, while reading the instructions. Do this indoors, not outdoors in the wind like I did once.

Also comes with a cute comb for the hairs and a long Allen key to move the suspension hoops.

Cheers.
