From a stills perspective it sounds awesome, it will be a affordable compared to other MF digital cameras but still cost 7K

From a video perspective pentax has yet to delver a good video DSLR and I doubt 99% of the people that want this camera would care about it.
645 is a nice format and I shoot quite a bit of film on my mamiya, definitely has a look especially when you use wide angle glass.

"Just when you thought the shallow focus fad was over...."

You can actually get the same DOF as 135 the fastest lens you can get in 645 is F1.9 most are 2.8-4

for the record: f/2.8-4 on 645D (44mm-wide sensor, 0.82x crop factor) has the same DoF as f/2.2-3.2 on FF; f/1.9 is equivalent to f/1.55 on FF

The new 50mp Sony MF sensor has 14 stops of DR across ALL ISO sensitivities !

Amazing ISO range from ISO100 to ISO6400
• Incredible 14 f-stops dynamic range
• 50 megapixel captures
• Continuous capture flow
• Fluid and responsive Live View

That sounds amazing until you see the max ISO is only 6400! So really what they are saying is 14 stops of DR from ISO 100 to ISO 6400. Still good, but not quite as revolutionary as implied. Anyway, thanks for posting this and I look forward to the DxO evaluation of this camera.

so, it's not the green dot above, but the red dot down below
I'd also like to see some video samples, but I wouldn't be very optimistic: big sensors are slow to read, so I would expect aggressive line-skipping and therefore lots of aliasing/moire (either that, or horrible rolling shutter)

the red dot button is for live view and the green dot is for recording I think... that was how it was like on the Pentax K3

How are they going to go from a 40-50 Mpel sensor to an 8k frame? I'll lay money that the video is a line-skipping aliasing moire-filled mess.

I'm not technical enough to know that.... But if the sensor is around 8k wide... Wouldn't it scale down beautifully to 4K, much like the 4K C300 sensor scales down to 1080p?

bigger sensors are usually slower, so this thing will probably line-skip like crazy
best case, for 4K, it will read half the lines, then downsample that 8Kx2K into 4Kx2K
the alternative is if it has in-sensor binning, which is a very neat solution (much better than line-skipping) but requires a specific design
or maybe they managed to make a super-fast and super-big sensor... but I doubt it

Because full frame is just too small, Sony are supplying a 4K video capable sensor to Leica and Pentax in the region of 40 to 50MP. According to a Leica rep at NAB the company is planning 4K video for their implementation of the sensor in the Leica S. Indeed Pentax have already announced that their 645Z will record 4K video.

Looks like 4K from smartphones to medium format this year !
