New PC laptop - Need Help!

I just got a new Acer with an Intel Core Duo 2Ghz. and 2G of Ram.

When I tried to run the driver downloaded from Panasonic a warning tells me I need to hook up the camera via USB. It is!

I can't seem to run a driver for the P2 card either.

Panasonic's website suggests that PC's must use USB and Macs must use Firewire. Is it true that the only drivers for recording directly to a PC are via USB, is there no Firewire solution?

Yep. Only USB2. It's better cuz lets you use your camera as a P2 unit.

and btw: USB2 is more stable under XP than firewire...

I have it figured out.

The driver I needed to read directly from the P2 card was at the top of the list, it had looked, to me, like this driver was for a P2 card reader as aposed to the PCMCIA slot.

I got the USB driver to work when it occured to me that the camera might need to be in dub mode. This is for file transfer.

Now I want to figure out how to use my laptop as the recorder.

Your laptop can record via firewire streaming, if you're running a program that captures DVCPRO-HD footage. On a PC that means EDIUS Broadcast, Avid Xpress Pro HD, or soon Serious Magic DVC Rack.
