New Panasonic Drivers including Mac P2 format utility

Not done the P2 card formatter, but lordy, lord I've just upgraded my P2 Stores, via an Intel Mac...

just picked myself up from the floor.

I can verify that P2 Formatter for Mac does just what it says it does. It formats P2 cards on a Mac. Installed it on my old-school PB G4 and it works like a charm. It even recognizes the write-protection tab and won't let you formate a wp'ed card.

Good on you, Panny!

Well my Duel Adapter now isn't recognised after this flurry of updates (did the P2 drivers and Duel Adapter for 10.4.11 aswell again), so I can't test the formatter.

I tried the formatter with a card in the P2Store, and it's not recognised there.
I was able to use the P2Store manager to format the P2 store though.

so mixed luck for me. thank god for P2 stores.

Tested in Leopard with a duel adapter and it worked every time.

You can also rename the card if you want.

Minimalist dialog box recognizing serial number, whether the card is locked, and will format.

However, remember to copy over with the card locked, then eject, unlock the card and then format.

Can't unlock the card when it is inserted AFAICT.

I'll say it again, hot diggity dog!

So, naming the card -- does the name survive the format? And does it show up on the desktop instead of "NO NAME"? Could this indeed be the end of "NO NAME"?

On Windows, you can name a card and that name will survive the format (unless you format in-camera or in a P2 Store or something like that; that'll erase the name).

Can you password-protect the name? There are two ways to name a card in Windows, through the P2 Card Manager (which name is only shown in the P2 Card Manager, and doesn't show up on the desktop) or also by renaming the volume itself when you format it (which does show up on the desktop). Wondering how they implemented this in the Mac tool.

Thanks for the research, David.

Yep, renaming the card is done right in the app window, and it survives the formatting process.

I couldn't see any way to password-protect the card in the Mac version.

Works fine on my 1.67Ghz G4 Powerbook. Took the card out and put it back in and the name survived.

I'll have to dump a few onto my P2 Store later and see when I hook it up to my computer if I get all the names listed on the desktop as well.

That would be fantastic to have 15 cards on the desktop all with names instead of 15 NO NAMES!

I wonder if after you format the card if the Mac still puts its files on the card since it is now write protected?

Anyway, I'm sure there are allot of happy Mac P2 users! :cheesy:

Ooooh, nice one Kevin -- let's see if the name transfers to the P2 Store.

So does the name survive formatting in the camera?

Are you asking that if named using the utility, does the name survive a format in the cam? I'll test it.

However, I had one issue.

I renamed the card to BARRYGREEN, and I got a bunch of error messages.

Hey, Barry. Instead of just having all of us hard-working HVX'ers do the work for you, why don't you actually contribute something to this community. :D

I mean, jeez!

I'd love to but a) I'm out of town until tomorrow, and b) I don't have a Mac. Well, I do, I have half a Mac because one of my companies has one, but I don't have access to it 'cause I'm out of town. :)
