Just saw this from Panasonic. The AJ-PCD2GPJ.

I tried looking for people talking about this here, but didn't find any threads.

Anyone have thoughts about this new single card USB reader? Is it too good to be true?

I've been waiting for more info about this from NAB. Anyone had a chance to see this unit in action on the show floor? What's the transfer speed like? Anyone?

So what do you think how much time it takes for a 32gig card? Hopefully it's faster than 30 minutes :-)

Tom, thanks for the link (and to Helmut). That's what I was looking for. The speed is certainly acceptable for most situations. pw

Hi pw,

yes, looks like it will suit many many users, a pity a budget reader like this was not released years ago following the release of the first P2 products , anyway I suppose better late than never ?.
Yes "Helmut" blog is great, lots of (real world) info we can't find anywhere else.

Cheers from downunder

Thanks to Helmut. 32 GB in about 15 minutes. For me that's fast enough. I can use it in the field with my macbook and at home with my pc. That's great.

P2 USB Reader AJ-PCD2GPJ is no longer vaporware.

Just got a call from Jasmine at SpecComm; mine was on early backorder and it's shipping out now.

Love to see your impressions of the device.
Are you in Mac or PC?

Mac all the way. I use PC's when someone holds a gun to my head. Will report here about results with FCP 7, and with Adobe CS5 when that shows up.

Will be using with a Mac Pro 8 core and also MacBook Pro 13". (Yes, 13", which as it turns out is surprisingly useful with Pro Apps. The only useful tool is the one you have with you and it's nice and light so it comes along way more often than the previous battlestars ever did)

Both the Mac Pro and the little 13" MacBook Pro have the requisite dual USB ports located conveniently. Of course the recent MacBook Pro's have all the ports on one side. And it's very cool that Mac Pro's have 2 stacked USB ports on the front of the CPU; what a pleasure it will be to FINALLY be able to offload P2 cards to a desktop Mac! After how many years has it been???

Yeh yeh, I know, PCD-whatever's have been available at the price I paid for my first car. But here we are in 2010 and I'm just grateful Panasonic got sick enough of being accosted by indie's everywhere they demo'd to actually toss us a bone.

For those who dont know: this device requires two (2) USB ports. The cable setup it comes with has 2 USB cable ends. One draws power for the device , similar to the requirements of some USB hard drives.

Steve,

Any impressions since picking up the reader last year? I, too, use only Mac unless forced otherwise. Hence the curiosity. Are you using it with Snow Leopard (10.6)?

i use it with snow leopard, leopard and i think even tiger. no problems for about the last 10 months or so.

there's no mojo or magic to it. plug it in and GO
