New P2 Store?

Just wondering, along with 16gig P2's, AG-HPX500, etc., if there is any news of a new (or upgraded) P2 Store that will accomdate the larger P2 cards and/or more of them?

I may be in the market for a P2 store for the end of April so if they do announce one, I hope it's available right away. :)

The duel adapter I believe is much faster than the p2 store. At $120.00, it transfers a 4 Gb card is about 2.5 minutes using the EC/34 slot.

I'll have one for testing, but that's what the beta testers are reporting.

And you get a laptop.

I do remember that there was a post for dual adapter or pc card adapter to express card slot somewhere in this site. Post it here for us to check it out!

Panasonic is definately going to have to make a new p2 store type device... With 16 and 32 gigs cards around the corner, 60 gigs of storage isn't much.. Im curious if the 16 gb cards are going to be like 4 4gb cards the way it splits up files like the 8 gig cards do...
I wouldn't be surprised if the released a higher capacity p2 store towards the end of the year.. But I would just go for the DuelAdapter and MacBook Pro... The p2 store is geared towards field use...

Thing is, as the bigger cards come out, the whole reason for there even being a P2 Store starts to become irrelevant.

If I have an HPX500 and four 32GB cards, I can record over five hours in-camera at once. What do I need a P2 Store for?

The P2 Store was a crutch to help us limp along on small card sizes. With an HVX and two 32's you can get almost three hours of footage in-camera. Enough to get through several days of shooting, assuming about an hour's worth of shooting on any given day (speaking of dramatic narrative work); probably a week's worth of shooting if you occasionally go in and delete unnecessary/bad clips.

So I don't know if they'll even bother with making a bigger P2 Store. Maybe they will; I'd always rather have the option to use it than not have the option, but -- it could be that the day of temporary hard disk storage is passing by rapidly, and it may not even be on their radar to update the P2 Store.

I think I remember reading that it'd be possible to take out the 60 gig drive and put in a larger one.. I'd like to put in a 200 gig 7200 speed drive... but be able to drop more of the 4 gig cards to it and not just the 15 it can now... . or atleast use it with the bigger cards. Would suck if you couldn't do this for all of the people who forked out the cash to begin with....

Then maybe they should drop the price of a P2 Store down to $500.

If I could get 4 32gig cards for $1500, I wouldn't bother with the P2 Store but that ain't gonna happen for a while. :)

Barry, I agree.

Although I am extaordinary interested in the HPX500 my musing is more oriented towards the HVX. 2x 16 at 720/24 is going to allow 80 minutes (assuming two cards). That might be enough, then again it might not. 32 gig cards? Sure, that doubles it, but realistically when (with a December target) might we expect to actually lay our hands on them? As of this posting you can't even get a 4 or an 8 gig card at B&H ..."out of stock" or "accepting orders." I'm remembering what I had to do to acquire a pair of 4 gig cards back when I received my HVX.

Whether Panasonic is carefully managing the market (and, if so, I have no issue with that), supplies are gobbled up by network television, or it just takes that long to hatch a card makes little difference if you can't get them. I guess we'll know more once somebody starts taking pre-orders for the 16's.

To some extent the FireStore device handles this problem and this Summer the CinePorter will (I expect) do the same or better but for me a bigger drive in my P2 Store would be a welcome addition to the arsenal (and more of a "now" type solution). Someone will probably figure it out . . . I would hope it would be Panasonic as I would rather send my P2 Store in to them with my bucks for just such an upgrade (hardware) . . . and limp along with that as I wait for the larger cards to materialize. I probably should have stated that in the first place. Realistically though, what could it cost? It would be all gravy for Panasonic, IMHO. Your thoughts on that?

I took barry's advice and bought the magic OTG enclosure.

I offload the camera in between takes. It's slow, but it's nice. Less error prone than an actual comp (so far, knock on wood), and gives an excuse to check the line of the shot/setup etc. talk with crew, more etc.

That's the beauty of the IT workflow. Any way you want, you got it.
