New owner questions... (sorry guys)

Just got my 700 Friday. Threw it in the bag, brought it home to mess with it but left the box (and manual) at work. Couple quickies...

Most stuff is much like my fs100s but the slow mo...How do you guys normally do it?

I remember reading Friday that you hit S+Q (pick your frame rate, 60 or 240) then hit record to start recording and record again to stop.
Mine seems to act a little weird. when I hit S+Q 240 it says preparing.....then starts recording at that point. when I finally hit record button, it stops and writes it out to the card. I assume it's set to "end trigger" If I've got that figured right, I'll assume that's normal. You just select 240 and it starts filling up the buffer with the last X number seconds (10 sec?) So when I hit the record button it just gets the last 10 seconds or so, even if I leave in this mode waiting for a bird to land or whatever... i.e. the buffer just fills up and dumps everything but the last 10 seconds, right?

Second question. Is there a sight link etc for pic profiles anywhere? I have several loaded for my fs100s but don't recall seeing many for fs700s.
what pic profiles are you guys using? Stock profiles or modded ones?

TIA for putting up with the nube questions.

Hey Chris. For the Super Slow Motion you have 3 choices and they al write to buffer - 1) Start Trigger 2) End Trigger 3) An option that's in between the two,. I mainly used Start Trigger.

AbelCine has some profiles and Nyvz makes a popular one for a more baked in look, but the beauty of the 700 over 100 is that it is not so reliant on profiles. Cinegammas just work and usually I use Cine 1 for low light and Cine 4 for daytime. Well, now that I have he 7Q, it's RAW or 4K2HD in S-Log.

So yeah, unlike the FS100, you don't have to go profile crazy, the Cinegammas and S-Log are pretty damn good, although I do tweak my Cinegammas a bit. IMO, if you get the 700, the 7Q is a must as it's just so much better than the stock 700.

Thanks Gene I did some goggling last night and found alister chapman (XDcam user.com) had some thoughts on one profile that got the most DR from the cam.
ablecine also had 2 that I will use to match up with my fs100s. (5d and JR45)
It seems that few people use cine 2 and 3 very much, don't know why but fuel for research...

I have a feeling that tweaking what's on the stock profiles is in order for me. Cine 1 seems to make skin tones a little smoother but brings the blacks up a little too much for my liking. (to each his own though)

I could not find an online manual for the "R" model.

7Q is on the horizon for me but not till they get the issues straightened out. 4K2HD seems to be the way to go (very nice detail) but the rec709 really looks like it needs a lot of work for a baked in go to color. 4K2HD SLog also looks very nice but then you have to follow up with grading after so more work afterwards.

The 'R' model is just the same as the none R except it has the 4K output option at factory. Everything in the FS700 manual is still valid...

... And the R model addendum can also be found online. There isn't a full manual with the 4K update built in AFAIK so you have to read the standard manual in conjunction with the addendum.

You got it right about End Trigger. I like to use that any time i'm waiting for something unpredictable to happen. For something rehearsed, Start Trigger is good. Just keep in mind there might be a slight delay when you use Start Trigger, you can't just yell "Action!" and get the first second of the action. That's what i've found.

I'm like Gene. I use Cinegamma 1 for low light, and Cine4 for daylight. Actually, i find myself using 1 for just about anything but bright sun. For a while, i did use Cinegamma 3 because i found it to be a nice "In between" curve. Worth checking out.

it's very helpful if you check the profile settings for yourself in direct comparison. I spend hours with it and for my kind of shots Alistair Chapman's settings suited best - plus adding R 2 and Y 4 in color depth. It also makes you familiar with the camera.

Here are the PP's I use with comments. This is before I started using 4K->HD ProRes Slog2 Odyssey.
#2 and #3 are the same and the ones I use 90% of the time...
