OTHER: New Open Source Screenwriting Software

I ran into this over on Indie Talk earlier today. Free and Open Source, available for Windows, Mac and Linux (mobile versions planned in the future). I gave it a quick spin earlier and I really like it. It has a dark mode, customizable templates, index cards, scene view, character notes and more. I feel like it's a FOSS version of Adobe Story, but a lot cleaner and elegant in it's execution. Give it a go and see what you think :) I'm glad to see a piece of software that challenges Celtx as the dominant free app (and they even have proper page counts! Celtx, are you paying attention?) Trelby was really promising a few years back, but development ceased and it was nowhere near as full featured or complete as this. I'm currently using FadeIn, but the notebook like approach (similar to Adobe Story) might win me over.

Cool! does it solve story problems for you? Ive looked for that feature for years but none of them have it. Seems like someone would have thought to include it by now...

I signed onto the free version of Writer Duet ... haven't used it since. I have Celtx and, prior to that, I had Cinergy. And prior to that, Final Draft. And prior to that, I would format a word processor layout to look like a screenplay.

IMO, all screenwriting software should be open source.

PS. A Russian site, huh? "I am writing a screenplay about the evil (edited: to "all powerful") ruler of a brutal (edited : to "effective") mobocracy (edited : to "a ruling clan like in your own country").

I believe I've read that there is a 'write the story' plugin, that not only writes the story, does a 'Turing Test' on the results, and gives a score of how indistinguishable the result is from what a human writer would write.

Your Russian words for the day:

Здравствуйте (Often abreviated to just Здравс...)

Zdravstvuyte

"Hello"

До свидания!
Do svedanya!

"Goodbye"

I can add probably a few hundred thousand Russian words on top of that.

C добрым утром, с добрым утром и хорошим днём!

I don't know if its around anymore. But Movie Magic use to have a program called Dramatical that would ask you questions based upon certain formulas. Basically the questions where geared to help you work your story out. My friend loved it. I didn't so much. I'm one of those sit down and make it up as I go along writers and then go back and fix all the issues in the next few drafts.

Mainly I still like Final Draft.

My writing partner and I use the free version of Writer Duet:

It's fantastic to be able to collaborate on a script in real time (like Google Docs) with video chat embedded next to the script! Excellent tool, and the price is just right (free!)
