New Odyssey features video on Convergent design's site

That is what they say now before there are any units available to test the power consumption with. They told us earlier this year that their product will ship in August, so everything is subjected to change when it comes CD. 7 watts is not enough for the processing they have to do for each frame, or it will be enough if they have invented a processor that does not consume power t all while doing multiple calculations.

The fact that they are behind the original schedule indicates NOTHING about the features/performance. In fact in any project schedule and performance work against each other, it would be more likely they wouldn't hit the performance projections if they were on time. There's an old adage that goes something like "low cost, high quality, on schedule.... pick any two" So far CD has done well on price (adjusting down prior from initial announced price), and on features/performance (they've been active in soliciting feedback to improve the unit prior to release).

Your 7 watt assertion presumes that none of the original 8 watts (of the 15 total) are powering the processor. I'm thinking the processor is pretty essential to the operation of the unit even when not recording. The OLED monitor itself probably doesn't consume much power.

In general your logic that Sony uses more power than you expected and CD's is not shipping yet so it will be worse than Sony's just doesn't hold water.
