My name is Brittany. I've joined so I can ask if anyone knows how to go about looking for old prime lenses? And to get opinions on the Canon 24mm f/1.4 versus the 24-70mm f/2.8 when shooting video. Is this limitation on new members the reason I can't start a thread? I just spent 20 minutes trying to do that, and gave up.

Hello dvxuser.com. My name is Tony and I am a long time reader of dvxuser... probably since before 2005. This forum has been a WEALTH of information over the years as I google searched for answers and found related threads here. Now that I have some knowledge under my belt, I've decided to join the community to help out others and learn the best I can. I've been a member of many forums and message boards, but my biggest contributions are probably Level 5 Yahoo Answers member and 5,000+ post members at slickdeals.net and creditboards. So I like to give back along with learning from others. I'm currently in my 2nd year of running my own small video production and services company. I'm passionate about the power of video and filmmaking. I'm would say I have an enthusiast-level knowledge of camcorder and dSLR video technicals, editing/compositing (Vegas Pro, Premiere Pro/After Effects/Photoshop NO FCP!) trans-encoding, audio, dSLR accessories, etc. I'm currently living in North Carolina. Add me as a contact if you think I can help or would like to network. Thanks and best wishes to all in their personal and business-related endeavors.

Brittany, one of the best places to get old prime glass is on ebay, keh.com, and believe it or not, shopgoodwill.com. I have bought many that way and my favorite one so far is my Asahi Takumar 50mm f1.4 (M42 mount). Other faves is a Spiratone 20mm f2.8, Yashica DX 28mm f2.8 and Sigma 24mm f2.8 Superwide II. As far as the two Canon lenses you mentioned, it really would depend on what shooting conditions and scenes you're shooting and if you're using a crop or full-frame body. If you start a thread or need further advice, let me know.

Hello Jason and all other dvxusers. My name is Derran and I'm from the Netherlands. I've come across dvxuser.com several times and finally decided to join. Looking forward to meeting you all.

Long time reader, first time poster. Trying to get back into the swing of things. The weather is getting nicer, so hopefully I'll take advantage and get out there and shoot something.

I've gained some gear over a period of 2 years, and unfortunately, I feel it's out-dated (being new to this "industry" I could be wrong. So, yeah, ask away...

Hey everybody,

My name is Kyle Fordrung, I'm a freelance videographer / editor and proud, new owner of a Panasonic HVX200 (my first step into HD videography). I have my bachelor's in Digital Video Production, and I'm trying to learn as much as I can about the tech and the business and try to make a living off of what I love.

When I created my profile, I used my freelance label Octopod (Octopod Video Labs) and I was wondering, Jason, if you could change my user name to my real name?

Thanks, and happy to be part of the community!

You need to make it clearer for idiots like me that you have to post before you can edit your profile!

Wasted an hour on it.

This idiot's name is Jamie. Hello everyone.

Hello,
My name is Bill and I am from the UK. Always been interested in cine & photography and have invested in a Nikon D5100 and a GH2 this year. Found loads of inspiring videos shot particulary with the GH2 on vimeo and youtube. Still just scratching the surface on these cameras with loads to learn- exciting times ahead I think!!

cheers!

I was recommended this forum by a friend of mine who is a filmmaker. I look forward to jumping into the fray and learning lots from everyone... hope I have something to offer as well. :) My name is Josephine.

First post, new member, and new to digital film making. Although I have a television background, never really got my hands consistently on a camera until now. That would be a Panasonic AF-100. I'm looking forward to learning from the "years" of experience here. Hello and look forward to talking with some of you...just...some of you.

Hello!
Just getting into DSLR filming for travel blogging and for fun. Yet to upgrade my DSLR to one with video, but once I've asked a few questions I will probably go down the GH2 route. Can't wait! Speak to some of you soon,
PP

Worked at a photography studio for a couple years. Never really thought about video work. Just picked up a new t3i for $499. Seems like this is a great resource. Looking to pick up some vintage glass.

Hello, my name is Jordan and I'm from Bulgaria so I apologies
for my English.
I'm interested in filmmaking for quite some time. For the past couple of years I have the idea to make a short movie so I hope I could find useful tips here.
