New mbp & dual adapter

I found out that the new MBP does not have a PCI-E slot unless you buy the 17" Version, Is this the only way that you are able to use the Duel Adapter Granted you keep the OS 10.5?

wow so there is no way to get a 15" to take P2 footage in the field with a device like the duel?

The new macbook pro is the wrong thing to buy if you want to do P2 offloading in the field.

Your choices are to use the camera itself as a card reader, or get an external USB/FW card reader like the PCD20 or use a P2 Store or P2 Gear as a card reader.

Or just ditch the idea of using a new MBP and go with a product that can do the job properly, such as an older MBP with Duel, or an older Powerbook, or a Windows laptop.

barry is exactly right. even the new 17" macbook pro WITH the expresscard slot is a questionable choice right now. as duel systems currently has no snow leopard drivers for the duel adapter and they have more or less said they have no proposed date when there might be one. so if you bought a new 17" MBP today, youd still be out of luck. - youd have to by an old copy of leopard and reformat the machine before you could use it for P2 transferring...

im going to make my old G4 powerbook a permanent part of my rig in case my duel adapter ever fails in the field...

you can pick up an old powerbook G4 with a true pcmcia slot on ebay/craigslist for $400 or less

Only caveat now with the old Powerbook is it cannot run FCP 7. So I'd say go with an older MacBook Pro 15" with the Expresscard slot.

true dat! but if youre only wanting to dump cards, you dont need FCP anyway.

did ANY macbook pros ever come with a pcmcia slot?

Nope- they were ExpressCard from the beginning. PCMCIA died with PowerPC.

then id advise anyone who wants a cheap card dump option in the field and doesnt want to introduce the windows element - go with an older powerbook.

ugg! I guess A Perfect World is not meant for any of us!!! There is always this but not that, OR that but not this..... Its really frustrating!
