New Mac Book (not Pro) Core 2 Duo

Two things:

Apple limits the shared video RAM to 64 megabytes? Don't know why.

Second, no expansion at all. Just one FW bus and no way to add EC/34 or eSATA support.

I wish there was a MacBook Semi Pro

LOL! Semi Pro would be great. It seems that they really want to keep this a "consumer" laptop. The video card w/64mb really kills it for me.
I am about to upgrade and it looks like I am getting the 15.4" MBP.

The Semi Pro is the Macbook Pro Core Duo, 1399 on the Apple Store Specials Page. 2.0ghz 128mb VRam, etc etc...

I upgraded to the Core 2 Duo Macbook Pro on Saturday (2499.99 Model) and love every second of it. Most notable feature right now, (not even a feature really) not nearly as hot! Which means i dont have to shut it down 20 minutes before i leave the office to let it cool before i put it in my bag.

I ordered a MBP 15" on Sunday night and am waiting for it to arrive so I can get FCP on that, and see how it performs against my Dual G5. Good to hear it doesn't get as hot as the original MBP.

I am about to buy a new Mac but cant decide which one. It will either be a MBP or a 24" iMac. Any suggestions? :)

There are at least three threads on this.

Try a search.

I have both the iMac 24" and the MBP C2D, the MBP is a little bit faster in terms of application snappines, but that is because (most likley) the extra gig of RAM. MBP 2499.99 model comes with 2GB Ram standar. iMac 24" comes with 1GB. Both have the same video card w/ 256mb vram, and both are Core 2 Duo, the iMac being a 2.16ghz and the MBP being a 2.33 ghz.

and it doesnt run hot at all, except with a full load on it, but even then its not as hot as the old MBP's at just a normal iTunes/Safari/Mail load on it.

Sorry about that David. I figured since this thread is already about Mac it wouldnt be a big deal to ask here.

Cynic-- Thanks Bro!

I've been so happy with my regular macbook. It would be nice to have another expansion port and firewire 800.. but I got mine with a discount for 1050... Put in a 7200 RPM drive and 2 gigs of RAM.... all for like 1500. Not too shabby.
