Hey all,

after seeing so much inspirational HDSLR work, I am happy to finally post a piece of my own.

I would love to hear your thoughts on this. I know this is nowhere near perfect, but I put forth a lot of effort and learned a ton.

Enjoy!

Very solid. Nice opening sequence. Nice sequence separating the two
male vocalists. Some beautiful shots in that.
Some a little too soft. If you are going to put sexy dancing girls on
podiums I think you should spice it up a bit. I'm sure the girls are sufficiently
hot and all, but maybe throw in some medium/close shots, maybe a little
slo-mo, or just take it out all together. Doesn't really need it. Think about it.
Major kudos to the older funky white man in that shirt.
I didn't like the girl slurping the coke, and I thought maybe the students
were a little off the page wacky stereotypical. But a real if at times rough
display of genuine talent.

wow really creative and amazing job. shows a lot of hard work went into it, one of the most pro and creative things i've seen on here. only thing I didn't really like was the lighting in the classroom scene. Was a bit low and unappealing to me but everything else was great and very creative as I said. what cam was this shot on?

Hey thanks for the comments guys!

Max I agree with the female dancers. More coverage of them would have been beneficial, and looking back, having a slo-mo shot our two would have added to the glamour/sex appeal. Unfortunately on some of those shots my first AC was off. It can be tough to nail sometimes on still camera lenses.

Homunculus, I'm not a big fan of the classroom lighting either. If I were the DP, I would have lit it a lot differently. The saturation definitely doesn't pop nearly as much as some of the exterior stuff. And this was shot on the 7d with a Canon 50 mm T1.8, Canon 85 mm T2.8?, Tokina 11-16mm T2.8, and I forget which fisheye, 30mm , and 135mm we used. Wish we would have done more tests with the 30 and the 135 because those were the lenses used during all those soft shots.

Hey, nice tune!

Music video is very nice too. Kudos. Though I'll agree with the previous comments that the classroom lighting wasn't great. Also think that depth of field was a bit too shallow at times. In general I like to see work done on DSLR's that doesn't abuse the whole shallow DOF thing. But yeah, in general, very cool shizz.

:)

yeah the classroom thing is too much incoherent light spill and a nasty yellow light that I don't like, just wasn't appealing at all

Nice work, Alex. I really dug it.
To be honest, I generally don't make it through music videos - seems most of the time that we get everything we're going to get visually in the first 30 seconds or so. I thought you did a good job of parsing out new locations and introducing new visual info to keep me interested.

I have to agree on the stereotypicalness of the students - but it seems that is the feel you were going for. At times it may have felt a bit too self conscious though.

But overall - really nice work.
thanks for posting.

I agree with this I usually make it only through about 30 seconds of a music videos posted here because once they display all the little gimmicks it's usually the same thing at that point for the next few minutes over and over. But this one was so creative each bit was fun to watch and told the story so I ended up watching entire video about 3-4 times back to back doesn't hurt that the actual song is good as well
