New lighting with DVX100b

Hello!

The shoot went okey, but not all acting performance are the way i wanted them to be (not real actors) so, that a BIG drawback.

The lighting went good, but i did not change much.
The reason is i did not have diffusion filters and not enough lights to use the 3 point setup (i have 3 lights, 2 of them are used in the room, 1 is in the lamp, the otherone is bounched to the ceiling for the overall light levels) and 1 is outside for a shot.

I did not use only prackticals, because there is a videolight in the lamp above the table, hang there on a construction. And i kept lowering the exposure untill the table did not overexposed. Thefore the room was becoming darker, and the gain was kicking in (while the gain was 0db..) so i still find it strange.

But someone here mention that tv's has a autogain function, so that may be the reason, on the PC screen it all looks fine. But on 2 different tv's not.

Here is the construction:

Here are a few frames from the video, NOTE: Aspect ratio is wrong. I even loaded into Photoshop and copy/paste it in a 16:9 preset, but after saving, the aspect ratio is not displayed. Iam sorry! It looks a lot different this way... :(
Hope you can see truw the pixel aspect ratio thing... looks cheesy all those long heads...

(any suggestions how i can make this darker? i must still see the girl, the main subjects, but its a bit to light for my taste, consider the other frames.

Suggestions about making the shots look the same -some are a bit brighter than the other- are welcome. And do you think i must do some kind of Color Corretion to it? iam not so good at that (i just use brightnes and contrast..)
But maybe it will look even better with CC.

And finely, i hope to hear some reactions about this raw images.

Thanks :dankk2:

Looks great, but the aspect ratio looks screwy

I already told that,
but how can i change that? i do know a bit of aspect ratios and stuf, but how to save a aspect ratio in a jpeg file? I meen, it IS a 16:9 image, but its shown 4:3 unless you put it in a program that reconise its 16:9... but after that: how to export it AND keep it as 16:9.

By the way, do you have any suggestions about CC this?

Asked me or Mal?
MalcolmOng, because i was giving a reaction on his reaction, but in fact, its more like a general quistion and not specifiek to somebody.

I have made a cut-away-shot and it dont looks the same, i have tried the color balance filter in premiere, but i can get red.blue/green... but i dont get the orange/warm feel to it... :

Here is the shot that must fit in right before i get this ^ medium shot of her.
So her skin must look the same

Can someone help me pulling this of?

Thanks :)

Are you using Premiere Pro? Then use the color correction filter instead of color balance. In the color correction filter there is a tab called something like hsl adjustment with 4 color-circles (one for overall, one for light, one for medium and one for dark areas). You can move the center of the circles (try the ones for light and medium first) towards orange/yellow. Should work a lot better than the color balance.

Thank you, but sorry, because i still dont get it, it dont work.
It looks rea, real, real bad when i try to adjust the colors.
Iam nowere near the look of the other footage.

Maybe i must shot this shot over, but i think it CAN be done, i have played with the CC tools, and followd your advice (altough i did not find the thing wou were talking about i think, but the three way colour corrector does the same i think)

I hope this dont sound like a lazy quistion, but maybe there is someone here who can Color correct this only shot? I know, it sounds stupid. But i dont get it to work.

Well heres my go at cc.. I felt your shots looked great already, so all i did was i played with curves and contrast, and added a warmish look to it. I also darkened some of the risk shots to make it look more dramatic... But great work with the lighting. I was wondering what i could do with it, so i did that for the sake of cc'ing

hope you likes:D

I also roughly 16:9'd it

MalcolmOng, thank you! It looks fantasic! maybe it gets a little to dark, but that is hard to tell on such a tiny picture. But, how i see it now, it looks great!

But the shot of the button does not match the shot of the girl.
You see that her fingers have a totaly different colour :(
(not your fault, my fault, but even in your CC the shots still not match)

So i think i can better reshoot that little shot (?)

Do you mind telling me what you did exactly so i can duplicate your CC in premiere :) ? Ofcourse i will tweak it from there of.

Alright, here goes. What i did was pretty basic - the normal 's' curve to crush the blacks and enhance highlights until it looked good, then i upped the contrast a tad and boosted the red and yellow channels *just* a bit.

For the risk shots i used a more heavy sided S shape - ie i crushed the blacks more than i fiddle with the highlights. In fact for the risk shots my curve looked pretty much like a deep curve to the left side to really lower down the brightness of the areas outside the light. Moderation advised.

Hope that helps, and glad you liked the CC :D

I also did a scene were the room must appear dark, illuminated by the moon.
I know the other shots did not have any moonlight, so i was not sure if going for moonlight in the same short was a good idea. I do however think that its not a big deal, this room is upstairs and the lights are off. So we see moonlight and downstairs we dont. Anyways here it is:

(it was shot during the day, i did 2 filters on the window and i pointed a light down the window)

Iam considering not to do any color corretion to the risk images after all, i really did like your CC, but iam wondering if the shots need it. I think there is not a huge difference than the material produced by the camera itself (wich is better quality if not CC i think) or do you think its better to CC anyway?
