New iPod iPhone slate

hmm this is pretty hot considering that a dedicate slate with timecode and all runs around 799 and up... plus you can turn around and use your ipad for other stuff as well

What's the point of TC without sync? Come on, if you're gonna pay that much coin for a "TC" slate, get one that's actually useful.

However, if you've already got an ipad, sure why not. But I don't have an ipad, and don't really want one. Besides, my old lucite clapper & dry erase has been rocking solid for 6 years, and I don't see it being replaced anytime soon.

That's because they have TimeCode inputs. Without that, while it's not useless - it's also not any more useful than a $20 slate with a pen.

don't know much about this app, but you know you can easily set both sound and timecode by recording and outputing something from the ipad speaker.
if you have the same sound on the ipad + the time-code or time and the same sound on the recorder, you can sync anything.

it's the same thing with camera recorded sound.

You can also clap your hands where both audio sources can hear and match them up in post just fine.

The whole point to an electronic time code slate is to be able to "jamb" the timecode to the camera, so that you can actually match the timecode up exactly between the cameras. I don't believe there is a way to do this (would be cool if there was a USB adapter or something).

The new app has LTC.

timecode 'reference' and jam syncing are not the same kit.

the app i think, makes it easier to adjust the white balance and exposure or gamma, so it has more than one function, better than clappin your hands, a uniques continues 'more than one sec' sound than is also recorded at the same time will sync perfectly to the app, and the camera, that clapping will not do.

I have the iSlate for the iPhone, which does the same thing. I've contacted them to ask whether they were working on connectivity for jam-sync. They told me "no". My bet is that if it were enabled, it would only work to an industry-standard BNC-style connector.

It would be nice to have the slate function as a master clock, or take code from an external source. With the DSLRs and little Sony or Panasonic cameras that don't use BNC connectivity for jam-sync, it is very common to slate the scene using a Deneke timecode slate or mixer clock which is running "wild" from the cameras.

Still, most operators will ballpark the individual cameras to within a frame of each other by manually punching in time-of-day. This is done once a day unless the cameras appear to be drifting excessively.

I'm more excited to use ProPrompter with my iPhone as remote to the iPad. That's a functional combination.
