Man, I want one, and I don't even need one. FW 800, 20 to 24 inch glossy screen, up to 1 TB internal hard drive...drool. Not crazy about the new keyboard though. I need some 'ker-chunk' when I hit the keys.

Lloyd, get me the new iMac. Lloyd!!!!!

Thanks for posting that, I had almost forgotten about the round mouse (aka; hockey puck). Man, what a bad idea that was.

why can't FCP finally look as pretty as these iprograms. i know it's pro app but i want it to look like SHAKE or COLOR!!!

no more GREY!!

If they changed the GUI of Final Cut I think I'd have a withdrawal seizure. I've been using it since version 1 and I'm so used to it on-screen seeing anything else would be disorienting.

GARGH! Imac's now have up to date DirectX 10 graphics cards - and my Mac Pro is languishing in DirectX 9 land! :crybaby:

Why I hate Apple/Mac:

Just take a look at the Dell. it's rigged up by an 80 year old and has a pile of stuff the iMac doesn't have:
  • Multi card reader (which btw comes standard in the box on all but the base model)
  • External speakers
  • at least one other off-screen usb device
  • 9 USB connections (iMac has 3)
  • full surround sound capability (iMac has headphone jack)
  • expandability
  • heaps of unnecessary cables
Furthermore they had to go to the Dell XPS line to find a computer where the price and the features match up. Meanwhile you can get pretty much any other computer with the same specs for several 100 less.

A few other things:
  • The reason why very few computer manufacturers build webcams into their screens is that if they break (which they do) replacing them is a major headache
  • There is a serious problem with heat dispersion in these imac things. Just think about it: a massive 20'' screen, motherboard, graphics card, processor and harddrive all jammed into a slim package. there is a reason why the G5s are still just as messy as that dell.
  • the mouse cable is too short
  • if your keyboard breaks or something goes wrong you can't get your CD out
  • the new keyboard looks like a million bucks but is probably as comfortable as typing on a cardboard box
I know I know... no mac vs. pc wars etc etc. but these are facts people. I hate Dell too but at least they don't blatantly lie about their competition to get ahead.

oh, and did I mention that the XPS 410 is being discontinued? so the comparison is between a new mac and an obsolete pc... riiight.

*not impressed*

[*]if your keyboard breaks or something goes wrong you can't get your CD out

if the keyboard breaks, you can use the mouse (at least the usb connection will still work I'm assuming) to drag the CD icon to the eject/trash button.

you can always hold down the mouse button either by attaching it to the usb in the back or if the usb is still functional on the keyboard.... the CD will pop out.

sorry. i had to mention just that one. rant on.

It really comes down to prefrence. To me the Mac platform is smoother, and safer. I'd buy a Mac just for FCP. Plus Dell gets you on their service plans. Every time I've ever called Dell for my PC I've had to talk to someone in India. Google has fixed more of my problems then Dell's customer service. Plus dell and most PC's for that matter don't offer free in store training on any of their software. I go in once a week for a training session in Apple Shake and once for Motion. To me that alone is worth the price differances. Sure there are some sacrafice's but all in all i think you get what you pay for.

That is part of the reason I build my own. You don't get bloat ware and restore disks instead of an OS disk. As far as tech support, about 90% of any support is out sourced to India. Every time I have to call, I sort of expect a Squishee and "Thank you come again ".
