Awesome video - you gotta see this!

The video is called "Killing Me" and the band is called Miss T and the Japanese tourists, they and I are based in London.

It was entirely shot on the DVX100A with standard lenses, and edited on Vegas for the PC.

I gotta say - I loved working with the camera and it performed perfectly the whole time and I am glad I bought it, I think the image quality dosen't shout dv - except perhaps in the outside shots - where we didn't have any lights except sunlight!

I would love to hear what you guys think - many thanks!

We'll be the judge on whether or not this is awesome or not or whether or not we just gotta see it!

You posted this yesterday.

Now that we have addressed these minor issues. I totally dug this song and band; very cool.

Alt Chick Bands rule.

I also really enjoyed the video although it screams MAGIC BULLET which I cannot stand. MB has about 4 or 5 looks I personally enjoy and this aint one of them. If this wasnt Magic Bullet, it might as well have been.

I really enjoyed to conceptual sie to this. We do not see enough of this style and this looked really fun. I also enjoyed the white room part. Very cool.

The one thing missing for me was the complete lack of any performance at all from the band. I feel the locations (all 2 of them) got old really quick and if we could have seen a 3rd, performance thing going on it would have ruled.

The photography is good enough but seemed a bit 'rudimentary'. The editing is really tight.

I think it works well even if it's missing some things

Nice video...it definately had that Magic Bullet look. I think it was the heavy diffusion and blown out skies in the forest shots that made it feel that way.

Overall I liked it. The white room parts were very nice.

Hi John,

Thanks for the comments - it started off a bit spikey at first but it wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be.

Fair comment about the Magic bullet thing - my reasons for doing the grade I did was a mixture of trying to tweak the footage to get it looking a little better - not necessarily like film - just a little better. The other reason was to give it a more otherworldly look.

As for the performance - I felt it would get in the way of the narrative of the video, I didn't think it would be right to have the guys chase her in one shot and then have their instruments and playing with her in the next.

I feel a little bummed at the rudimentary photography comment - but in some way I feel you have a point. I'm glad you liked the editing though.

Like I say - this is my first video - and I appreciate the comments.

Cheers

For a first video it's good stuff...I wouldn't get too discouraged.

I just shot my first music video about a month ago, and I probably floundered it pretty bad considering I didn't get all the footage I wanted in the time I had. Plus, Murphy's Law came into play on more than one occasion.

Just strive to make each video better...that's the only goal you should have.

I think John was just giving good honest, constructive criticism. Take it as that.

wow for a first video this was awesome!
the costume and production design is badass
you'll do good in the future, cause you already have a sense of style and the video is daring, which is a form of maturity.
The only thing that sticks out in a bad way is the performance of the girl in the forest, it's not original enough, you're just following her around in a homevideo way.
But keep it up, I enjoyed it.
peace.

Ive never used Magic bullet but I notice that look on a lot of films here at dvxuser and it kind of rubs me the wrong way. It kind of looks like you shot your film without the overall look in mind, then came up with the look in post, which gives it a low quality look. Im not sure what makes me think that thats just the impression I get. Now that the nasty stuff is over, the video is very good. I think it fits the song which I think is the most important part of music video making, the editing was great and the vfx were good as well. Fantastic job Paul.

Thanks alot for the comments guys - Its a bit daunting putting your work out there for the first time and asking for comments and criticisms, especially considering the amount of experience and knowledge you guys have (although I haven't posted before I have been reading threads for a while now).

Now that I've started posting - I'll make it a regular thing.

Thanks again,

Paul

I thought it was great for your first time out. Did you use just one dvx100a, or were you running multicams? Did you use any special equipment, e.g., steadicam, matte box, etc.? Thanks for posting it.

Hi, nothing exotic was used for this shoot,

I just used the Dvx pretty much out of the box - we only had the one for the shoot, I had ordered a glidecam but the idiot courier delivered it to a completely different person and address. So we didn't have one of those either. All we used was a Manfrotto tripod.

Cheers,
