Hi DVX Users,

Hoping I can get some direction. I've checked out B&H Photo and see the HVX retailing for 5199 w/ panasonics offer of "free" 16gb P2

Next I've seen low ball prices for DVX on ebay and *** scam shop link deleted by moderator ***
Where the prices range from 1699

Is this for real?

Can I buy one of these units that range from 1699--3850 without P2 and say - add a FS100

Sounds like a cat in bag - what should I do?

I hope to buy this Sunday 2/17

Are these older models? or cams meant for "other" markets or stripped down units without lens etc?

Help 7 thanks for the direction.

TC

Yes, it's real. And there are also a tooth fairy, easter bunny and big guy in
a red suit.

Seriously, it's just a bait and scam price. You call, they take the order then
mention that if you want a lens, battery, manual, viewfinder, lcd, etc. that's
extra. Or they refuse to sell you the camera unless you buy a boatload of
cheap, overpriced , useless accessories.

General consensus around here is that you can't buy a legit new HVX for much
under $5000. However, you will find dealers on Ebay, with a lot of good feedback,
listing HVX's for less than 5K (but nowhere near $1600). You may want to look into that - but remember, it won't be an authorized dealer in most cases, and
as such it wan't have a Panasonic warranty.

you cant buy an HVX without a lens or viewfinder or lcd or mic - its all built in. be VERY VERY WARY of anyone (other than a lone individual - and even then to a great degree) trying to sell a "new" hvx for under about $4800

It is still startling to me that with the internet how little resourceful we've all become.

There are so many web sites that evaluate business that sell on the internet.

Do your homework on such a huge ticket item by going to resellerratings.com and punching in the name of the store. AKA as ONECLICKDIGITAL AND WAWADIGITAL.COM.

http://www.resellerratings.com/store/OneClickDigital_1

or type shopcartusa.com scam into google and look at the results:

Is that in response to the original poster or the first response of the thread? Because these resellers dismantle the camera.... and force you to buy each component seperate, so they can advertise the camera at a lower price but all you would get is the body, with nothing else. Not to mention they don't provide a warranty with the camera, you'd have to buy that aswell. In the end they force you into purchasing the camera for the same price or even a higher price than an authorized reseller or they just never ship the camera, and start to ignore calls and emails.

We're getting these kind of threads more and more lately. Does anyone wonder if they're simply posted by a spam-bot or a rep from one of these shady companies just trying to get more people roped into their scams?

Seriously, one or two people a week being gullible enough to buy these sites is one thing. But one or two people a week that gullible and also willing to take the time to post some variation of the exact same post? Hmmm.....

Because these resellers dismantle the camera...
andrew, do you actually have proof of this? i cant fathom that these fly by night losers would take the time and effort to dismantle a camera?!?!? its not like these parts easily come off...

i always just assumed they TOLD these gullible buffoons that the cameras were "body only" in order to sell them the complete camera

and tony? how would posting bad threads here rope more people into their scams? sometimes bad press IS bad press.

Are you serious? I can't believe someone would consider this.

Dan

TC, in case you are not wanting to hear what everyone is hinting at, DON'T get suckered into buying from a non-recognized dealer.

You wouldn't send money to someone trying to put 20 million in your bank account would you? Or would you?

Oh, absolutely we get hit by the scammers trying to promote their own store. Just point them out to us and we'll either nuke the post at the beginning or edit it like I did above to remove the reference to the particular scam store.

No, I don't have proof but....... they might not take out the lens (as that would require a bit of work to realign it afterwards, they just would force the "purchase" of it.), but the LCD monitor and Mics can pop out pretty easily (we actually had to do that at the school I went to with a DVX).

Hi Everyone - thanks for the feedback. I do have a specific query. If you check on Ebay - you see the price as 36xx-43xx

I've called up several of these vendors and they all say I will get camera and lens - no P2 card.

Is this a viable option? I hope I'm not repeating myself.

Some of these sellers are power sellers with 100 positive.

Lets say - scenario. Buy Advertised camera from power seller @ 4324.00 - thats almost a 1k off B&H's price. Since I don't plan on buying P2 anyway - just buy fs100 and I would I believe have got better value for my money. Is all this making any sense - or should I just take the deals from B&H/J&R/Amazon @ aound 51xx and get my "free" p2 16gb card and then buy fs100. My investment would then be around 66xx

And for those of you taking the time to answer - I truly appreciate the time you take to reply.

I am very new to this.

Thanks
~TC

I agree... pay the normal price and don't get something that fell off a truck and hit all the steps on the way down and poof... out popps the p2 card and battery and charger as well. With that all gone, that's 1200 bucks worth of goodies.

You can buy the camera from B&H or any reputable authorize dealer for $5K+ and sell the 16GB P2 card that comes with it to buy your HDD. Just an idea...

TC do some research into the FS100 vs p2 before you consider a "better value". For me and what I do with my camera the p2 cards are 10x more useful than the firestore. The firestore has its place though. And buy the camera from an authorized retailer you'll get a warranty and some peace of mind. Spec-comm and FullCompass are my retailers of choice. I'd double check who your actually buying from in Amazon if you go that route. Last one I saw on there was not an authorized retailer.

Thanks guys. I always try to get the most bang for my buck and I figured - if there were any authentic deals out there - you folks at DVX User would know.

So - based on the feedback - there are no authentic deals out there. So I sould get cam from Panny dealer and surrender my haggaling ways :)

Thanks
~Thorma

You can buy a used one too. I saw that RGD is selling his camera with two p2cards for a great deal in the marketplace. That's really the only way you'd get a deal. Buy a used camera that's been well maintained. I'd try that option as well.

Short of buying from an auth. dealer, the best you can do is buy a used package from one of the longer-standing members on this board. Outside of that, you're on your own.
