New HVX Steadicam Shot

OK. I stand corrected. I loaded the footage into FCP. Oh My. What an improvement. It's beautiful! You can still see noise, but it's much less pronounced, and the color is amazing.

Good to hear! We have to spread the word to people who are concerned about the high noise levels that they may be getting the wrong representation.

I've been messing with all the footage that's available and grading like I grade Varicam footage I shoot... I'm really loving this camera, and I haven't put my hands on one yet!!!

Also very excited about the camera shoot out next week as well.

Exciting times for all us visual creatives!

I also had the same luck when I played the video on my desktop (the image looked bad). As soon as I brought the image into Final Cut Pro HD and viewed it on a LCD HDTV via the Kona card, it looked much, much better. It's still a little noisy, but I'm sure some lighting would help that. Also, there's been a lot of talk about bringing down the detail level. Is there any test footage out there where this has been done?

I wanted to see what kind of coloring I could do with the HVX footage, so here is a quick test using Color Finesse in After Effects.

When will the fearful doubtful contingent ever be satisfied?

Well I think part of this is comparing to the Canon. If it's sharper and cleaner then it's probaby worth the extra money for some people.

I shot an HVX with a friend who has the footage and the first thing he said was "Looks good but we'd have to see if we can clean the noise up" - now we didn't mess with the camera settings, but he was looking at original footage.

I'm sure the camera can be made to look good. For me it's simply a matter of "will another camera look better and am I willing to pay for the difference? Maybe a mini35 on the Canon body is the killer combo? I'm at least willing to consider all the options...

The 4 way shootout should answer a lot of questions if everyone does their job.
