New HPX500 Setup

So i got my 500 a few days ago at Samy's with (2) 32gb cards instead of the 4 16's.

I am planning on getting the Canon YJ13x6BKRS or the BIRS and i wanted to know if anyone had any suggestions for a mattebox. I have looked at Cavision stuff for the last 2 years but still dont know what will fit the damn lens....

i dont want a clip on or scerw on system, since i want to eventually get a FF for the lens.

Right now i have a Fuji 15x8 old SD lens that puts an image to the sensor but is definitely not a lens i would use full time on the system.

So, yeah just a question about the MB and possibly rails system.

Thx

Derek

Hows the YJ lens looking? I read here that someone had tried one and been unsatisfied.
What is your older lens? I've got an older "A" series fujinon that others here have rated as pretty good: I've also got a "YJ" that I'm worried won't be... I guess it's all a bit "hit and miss'!

Well i was planning on getting the YJ but after talking to a dude at samy's im going with the KJ13x6. The older lens is a Fuji AT A15x8BEVM-28.

I'd steer clear of the Cavision. There are several Chrosziels on ebay right now.

Otherwise, the Vocas matteboxes are a good value as well.

ETA that lens looks pretty good!

Bayne, not sure how far your gone, but the Cavision adapter plate for rails is pretty cheap and as god as any. Use the rr rails and mb (or other).

Purchased the KJ13x6 on friday. Thats as far as I have gone. Shooting in Colorado all next week so I will have some footage when i get back to show around. Looking into the RR Matte Box, I just need to make sure that the rails from Cavision are for Pani tripod plates since this is rail setup is different than a HVX or small format camera setup.

I used Cavision matte boxes on a feature and I wanted to kill myself. Terrible design and poor construction. The way the eyebrow attaches is a real pain to adjust and it has a 1/2 inch gap which light will leak through. The filter trays lack a pull-release and require you to unscrew two knobs to free the filter. The way the matte box is mounted is flimsy and the matte box will lean causing vignettes on one side. To swing the matte box away you have to pull up on a tiny knob with a pair of pliers. The Cavision ND filters have a purple tint to them -- so much for neutral density.

You will be much happier with Croziel.
