GH2 New GH2 - Won't Accept Hack (only original firmware)

I've researched and followed all steps appropriately. My GH2 was purchased new from B&H a week ago.

-Downloaded the latest ptools
-Ran ptools off 2 different harddrives
-Tried two different patch files
-Saved to desktop AND directly to SD Card (class 10 Sandisk Extreme) freshly formatted
-Saved hack file as original name "GH2__V10.bin" and also tried to increment, to no avail.
-GH2 recognizes original firmware but no hacked versions.
-Tried in C1,C2,C3 and movie mode.

All I get is the no image to be played message.

Anyone have any ideas?

you do have a fully charged battery, yeah? and you are pressing play when turning on? and have the firmware in the card's base directory?
the new hacked firmware should be named 11 and only 11.

lots of tutorials around. http://osgfilms.com/hack-the-panasonic-gh2
for one.

Yes, I have 4 batteries fully charged. Only pressing play once when the camera is turned on. Firmware is in the card's base directory everytime, even with the hacked named 11. I've followed all of the tutorials but still end up with the no images to be played message.

try just loading the original fw in ptools and save with no changes to see if it still detects it. what increment values have you tried?

Ok I just tried the original firmware and saved it with no changes...no detection. I've tried 10, 11, 12, 13, 14.

Also, I'ved tried ptool 3.6.2 and 3.6.3

Ok I have found the problem! Newer GH2's need the actual increment number to be "2" in ptools, not just the number in the saved file name as an increment of 2. Problem solved! :D

interesting!
you might want to let Vitaliy know of this fact at personal-view.com

Hey hold on, I guess it might be too late now, but what firmware version did your GH2 originally have? I just wonder if it possible you had the 1.1 version that is due to be release soon

so when you tried 10-14 version increments it didn't work but 2 did? interesting.

I bought a GH2 yesterday and spent 3 hours trying to figure this out... I felt like such a noob. I haven't tried to make sure this works, but THANK YOU x100000 FOR POSTING THIS/FIGURING IT OUT! :2vrolijk_08:

DannayZay, good detective work!
And Dazza makes a good point. When the new firmware is released, we'll all have to keep this in mind.

DannayZay... So what you're saying is that you tried using GH2__V11.bin, GH2__V12.bin, etc. but it didn't work. But then you tried GH2__V21.bin and it worked? Is that what you were getting at?

Sam,

After you load the firmware into ptools, the very first item is called "Version increment" and it's checked off by default. Click on it and you'll see under "Enter Increment" the number "1" in green. What DannayZay is saying is to change this to "2".

Exactly, and then I named the bin "GH2__V16.bin" keeping it an even number and not using a prior tested number.

The first time the gh2 is hacked, version increment needs to be a number higher than 1. Methinks patches made public should have this built in. I suspect this has been a frustrating barrier for entry to hacking.

As the OP said, he had a newer GH2. I have a year old one and had no issue with hacking. Perhaps there was a change in the firmware at some point.
