AC130: New gear for corporate video: Will it work?

Hi there, I am new to this model of camera, the AC130a, and it looks like it will be a great fit for the corporate video we plan to do. Just have a few questions to confirm this is going to work as I think it will.

Does this camera work well with Premiere Pro 11? Online some say yes, others say no. Also, what filetypes does it record to?

As a lifetime FCP user, I now have to choose between Vegas or Premiere on PC. Anyone recommend one over the other to use with this camera? Also keeping in mind I haven't got an ideal video editing PC. It has enough speed according to the specs of these programs, but not a lot of power. It will be upgraded, just not right away so I have to deal with that.

Any other advice you have for this camera before I give it the green light?

Thanks in advance!

There is no Premiere Pro 11; the latest version is CS6... and yes, the AC130A works perfectly with Premiere Pro. Perhaps you meant Vegas 11? Vegas is now on version 12, and yes it works perfectly with Vegas too.

Records AVCHD .MTS files, just like most every other camcorder out there now. AVCHD is the most common format on camcorders today.

Hi Mike,
I shoot corporate and training videos with a 160A and Edit on Edius 6.08 so I can't advise on your choice of software, but be aware that to edit AVCHD files in real time with maybe several video channels and titling, requires quite a grunty computer, otherwise you will spend a lot of time rendering. I can add that the 130/160 is a superb camera for this type of work, giving full control over every setting if required, or a combination of auto and manual functions. Best of luck.

Yes, I am very happy with the camera choice. I am just concerned about the software having to encode everything before I am able to edit it. We want a fairly efficient turnaround. As far the editor, I meant to say Premiere Elements 11. Longer term we could upgrade, but I am trying to invest more into the camera as we don't plan any serious editing sessions, at least for now. Any more intense editing requirements will be sent off site.

Considering many editors work about the same with this format is good to know. Would love a few recommendations though. Thanks all in advance!

Premiere Elements 11 is limited in editing capabilities. I suggest you get a loan if you want to do it right the first time. CS5.5 or 6 and a hefty computer. You can build your own computer with everything you need for around $1000. do you know a student? get the editing software through them for cheap.
