new FX 7..

FRIG! I was just about to post this.

Ah well good show Ivan but I beat you alphabetically because my name is....Evan!

muahahaha

I've seen this before but it sounded like a rumor. It doesn't seem to emprove THAT much over the FX1. No real progressive (not even fake progressive for that matter, no extensive image control, no native 16/9...I wouldn't sell my FX1 to buy one of these. For the money they are asking I would rather buy the Canon A1 without a doubt. I truly hope Panasonic comes up with something fast.

Market presumption price
'Approximately HDR-FX7' 380,000 Yen = 3.270 $

I am very glad that I bought my FX1E just on time before this apears and insults my aesthetics !

For me this model is only about marketing movement and has nothing new to offer, that said, we still have to evaluate the 3CMOS and this needs testings. If this is indeed major is to see, but I truly doubt it. It brings FX more to consumer side, thats for sure. Still photography... WTF ? And they just had to change the lcd position... one of the best features ever...

Totaly agree with you, Andreas. Sony keeps spiting in their clients face. Their way to do busines really grinds my gears. I can't wait to change brands. Canon has finaly come up with something afordable with all the main things I (and most users) am looking for. The only thing that makes me a little reluctant in buying the A1 is the fact that I think Panasonic has an AVCHD with true progressive cooking in their oven, just waiting for the right time to be served. This new little camera by Sony might just be a decoy so that other brands think everybody showed theirs guns...and then when the other brands show THEIR guns, then sony shows something diferent....Anyway, I'm sick of sony and I hope they sink hard.

Well, first of all I was wrong, they did actually introduce another HDV model...

... but am I reading this right? The zoom and focus ring is the SAME ring? And they added a second ring to the lens to control iris? That's odd.

Why is everyone upset? Sony released their next-gen consumer HDV model and it happens to be 3 CMOS. And, don't forget, Canon isn't true progressive either, just 30f and 24f. I think this is an exciting development and I'm really pumped to try the FX7 out. With the right skills and experience, plus a complete understanding of the camera, anyone can make great images with this 3 cmos unit.

Canon is not true progressive but this new sony doesn't even have a fake progressive. it doesn't have true 16/9. it has lower low light capacities. It was a draw back, it's not "the next gen". the next gen would be if they had released a AVCHD with true progressive. This camera looks like a draw back from the FX1. With such a small difference in price if I had the choice I would pay a bit more for the FX1. With a camera like the canon A1 out I think only a fool would pay for this.

Camcorderinfo has an in-depth report on it, and they say that Sony basically says "if you're an indie filmmaker, this isn't the product for you." It definitely looks like a big step down from the FX1 in a lot of ways, but the 3-CMOS is a very interesting development and they say that in bright light it'll be sharper than an FX1.

Heath McKnight,
We are upset because it seems that this is NOT an FX1 upgrade. If they stop compare it with my sweet FX1E and speak about a new generation HDV consumer camcorder I will have no problem whatsoever.

Yes, I read that. Actualy I could not even finish the article, it was making me so angry and depressed.

so the best they can do is to put a $150 rode video mic on a $3500 HD cam ?? and why would ppl buy this instead of the canon A1 again ??

Well, the next Step-up from Z1e is the HVR-V1E, 3 CMOS sensors, giving full/real 1920 x 1080, true progressive(yes), 4:2:2. It's smaller and lighter and cheaper. I have the full spec sheet, PM me. I got this from someone 'inside'. :-)

Remember, you heard it from me first.

1/4" CHIPS? HD(V) on 1/4" chips? People were hoping for better low light response, not worse. 4:3, not 16:9 sensors. Improve Cineframe so that it's clocked like the Canon's and gives actual 24 frames? "No, if the people don't like what we've done, we'll just do away with it all together, if they want 24P they can buy one of our expensive pro cams" - seems to be their thinking. Well, that's the last kick in the nuts from Sony, for me. I don't know why anyone would bother buying this thing. I'm definitely changing companies.

Every company but Panasonic has announced their second generation HD cam. It's their turn. It's their time. A prototype is out and being tested. I've asked this question now, three times; HOW LONG IS IT, FROM PROTOTYPE TESTING, TO STREET SHIPPING DATE? Anybody know or care to guess? C'mon somebody's got to have some idea of a time-frame from previous experiences.

No I'm not. I'm serious. I'll start another topic with this and post the spec sheet on this forum. With more detail. JUst wait 3 hours.

And it's consumer. Remember that. Sony is marketing the FX series to consumers.

Thats SONYS problem !

Follow me for a minute:

I like to think FX1E (thats why I bought it) when comparable to other prosumer HD camcorders or SONYS own Z1, what Silicon mini stands for the same companys full pacage. In both situations we have the same picture quality but luck some extra characteristics with gives us more flexibility. I do not do weddings, I do not seek for a camera that can do everything, if so I would choose Panasonic or Jvc. I am an indie filmaker and I do not give a dime for XLR inputs because I care about image quality and image quality only, in the BEST price avalaible. 3.000$ IS the best price avalaible for 1080i.
Now, about CineFrame. 24,30 I don't have an opinion. I have read they suck, most probably thats the case. But CineFrame 25 works and I challenge anyone to prove otherwize. You do lose final resolution but you end up with better or equal resolution of 720p cams. Furthermore with this baby you take the word noise out of your vocabulary.
So how a camera like that can be labeled consumer?

best
Andreas
