FS7: New FS7 little brother?

I've got an A7s. I've got an FS7. Not interested in something which isn't as good as an FS7 and isn't as small and versatile as an A7s.

As an owner of the FS7 I think the new FS5(?) is of little interest. But as a straight competitor to the C100 MKII it's very competitive with UHD at 30p and 1080p and 60p among other features.

i don't think you are the customer for this camera then anyway?
i have an A7II and an FS7 and the ursa mini 4.6 on order....i am pretty sure they had me in mind either.....
the reason i have the ursa on order is simply IQ.....i don't really believe in cinematic or look or sony vs canon vs BM color...i think most of that comes from lenses and postproduction/grading.....
shooting motion with a DSLR is backwards to me and so is rigging up a DSLR to the point where it looks like a frankencamthing....there are obvious advantages of smaller size and weight for certain applications but i also don't understand the urge to load up any camera with gear, attachments and cables to make it look more professional or macho.....
the FS7 is a little bit like the iPhone to me...it might not do everything or everything best in class but as an overall package it is pretty much unbeatable....and i know that next year a new one comes out to improve on everything and it will take me all of 2 min to be up and running again with my new phone....i could see the FS7 being that....
this new FS5 might be a little side step for me....i don't see owning both but if the 4K IQ with the internal codec is the same as the FS7 i could see myself selling the FS7 to have a lighter smaller body providing the same quality.....even if it ends up being a wash in terms of selling/buying....
somehow the excitement for the ursa mini 4.6 has drifted.....and honestly this FS5 announcement (whatever it will be) has a lot to with it.....it shows that sony is serious and that they are looking at the market and notice that a ton of people buy DSLR style cameras to mostly shoot motion with it......and that those same people then spend a ton of money trying to turn it into a motion camera......
BM has tried to do the same thing (i believe) but the handling and especially the raw workflow (which is of course the reason for its strong support from certain people) simply turn most people off.....that and the ongoing niggles/problems that most people can't or won't want to deal with......so in a way BM has missed the boat to reel in the masses....i think they will continue to build better and better cameras but it seems to me that they are competing more and more with RED and ARRI....the people that really want to own or rent dragon or alexa settle for BM (for the "cinematic look and color") and the 4.6 sensor might change their mind altogether and make the stick with BM in the first place.....who knows?
but a ton of people are shooting with canon C and assorted DSLRs.....this is what this FS5 is going right up against....
can't wait for tomorrow to see how serious sony is about this!

At the same time though, I've tended to find that people who buy Canon C100s tend to come from a Canon DSLR background and simply prefer the perceived ease of use that comes with it if you're used to the way Canon does things. I don't know how much it will eat into C100 purchases.

i think that's typically true as well. Granted, I own a C100 MkI and when the time came I bought the FS7. The dollar-to-performance ratio was just way ahead of Canon. I was a bit nervous about losing that "Canon look" but the FS7 in CineEI quickly alleviated my concerns. I've still got a lot to learn about the various settings / options that Sony provides in menu BUT I'm not sure (for my needs) that I'll ever shoot anything other than CineEI. At some point I need to dig into the LC709A (Alexa emulation) burned-in for quick turn / long form shoots but for now I'm loving what I've been able to get out of the FS7.

On the subject of being a huge tease, when are you going to announce a single drive solution 5Q for run and gun shooting?

I'm just catching up on posts now after a long day of setup at IBC. I cannot state what the new camera will be, but I can state that the info in this link is not correct.

Y'all will find out soon enough. And I kinda agree with Alister on this one.

Hot damn...

Hype Summary:

"groundbreaking" --- Sony graphic
"No more limits" --- Sony teaser page
"Get ready to see the world a whole new way" --- Ibid.
"it might just change your view of the world and how you shoot it." --- Ibid.
"Everyone's going to want one!" --- Alister Chapman
"I kinda agree with Alister on this one." --- Mitch Gross

This had better be really, really good.

Clearly, some/most people are going to be underwhelmed by whatever Sony announce. My money is on a gimbal friendly mini FS7. Not something I need/want, but cool nonetheless.
