New Footage from A1

I thought you guys (and gals) might be interested in this. It was foggy last night around my apartment, so I grabbed my camera, adapter, lens and [your] rails to head out to an area just to capture some footage. I didn't go out there with a storyboard or anything, I just wanted to get some random shots. When I returned home, I decided that as an editing project, I would see if I could make something narrative out of the random shots. This is what I came up with:

Well, not a fan of the music. Doesnt seem to suit it. Everythings a little on the dark side - I know its called Night color - and it was totally improvised. Just a point.

Ah other thing was your output was squished.

Hope you dont mind, but I ran it through color. Just rendering out now. Be up soon.

EDIT: Its coming back a little pixelated - but thats the least you could expect from rendering a H264 a few times over.

EDIT: Scratch that the images fell apart in the final render. Can barely make out what I did :P

Funny you say that about the music. Everyone I've showed it to loved the music. Interesting. What kind of music would think would fit it better?

Squished? It seemed squished? Hmmm. It doesn't seem squished to me. At least what I'm seeing doesn't.

I'm having a hard time with importing and exporting. The importing I think I've fixed. I'm currently using the A1 and Letus, shooting in HD and capturing in FP 5.1.4 with HDV-1080p24. Exporting is where it gets tricky. Not sure about which compressor or which size in order to keep the same aspect in quicktime.

All in all, I thought it was okay for a completely improvised edit with shots that I just randomly decided to capture.

Thanks for all the help, as usual. By the way, thanks for being honest. Brutal a times, but honest. :) jk.

man i am continually impressed by the quality of this camera. what kind of adapter do you have?

I have the Letus Flip Enhanced. I'm beginning to learn the camera quite well. I have still yet to do any custom presets. I pretty much use it the same as a 16mm or 35mm film camera. What do you have, or are interested in getting?

Pretty nice. A lot of shots normally left on the cutting room floor, but there are definitely some worthy shots in there, a nice example of what the camera can do.

And I thought the music worked.

Its not that I didnt like the music, just seemed a bit up beat for such a moody scene.

how do you find the letus FE with the whole dust issue on the mirrors? Is it causing you tons of anguish?

To be quite honest, I haven't had any problems with it thus far. It's actually worked quite nicely. The only issues I have are trying to focus on the ground glass every time I begin to shoot. But that's only because I'm too lazy to tape down the focus on the A1 (I'm afraid it'll shift anyway and I won't get get good shots).

John,

What I do is use the preset focus and zoom settings on the camera. That way, once you have nailed exactly where they both should be and set them, you can occasionally check by just pushing the buttons. This saves a lot of time and gives peace of mind when shooting. It's a great function to use with any adapter.

Steven,

You know, I don't think it ever occured to me to try that. I'm just so used to 16mm equipment that I'm used to the pre-shoot setup. I've gotten it down to just under 2 minutes though. :) Either way, I'm looking through my A1 book now to figure out how to set up the presets in order to just use a push-button for it. Finding that grain can be a pain at times. Thanks for the advice.
