FS7: New firmware

...and there is a F65 follow up planned but who knows when...

And NOBODY, but NOBODY will buy it.

People got burned so very very badly on the F65 financially, that set of buyers will not make that mistake again. That F65 starter package cost $85K+AKS, and people were lucky to get 40, 30 22K for them after sitting on the shelf with 10 jobs on them. $60K money pit.

But make the F75 the price of an Epic and all those people who don't like the way Red market their cameras will be all over it.

It's pretty sound business sense for Sony this time around to not be more expensive than the market leader in the Arri.

Question: For the sake of sanity, is everyone rebuilding their ALL FILES or just doing a factory reset and loading their V1.10 ALL FILES back up? I did the factory reset and reloaded my V1.10 ALL FILES into the camera. No problems so far *knock on wood*

I didn't do a factory reset after the upgrade and everything is working fine. But I will be rebuilding my All Files and Scene Files to take advantage of the new settings we have for white balance, record format, and audio.
Fortunately I don't see any major changes that make my training video Master Class or Field Guide book very outdated.

Did the same and no problems.

Did anyone notice the color space of the i-frame true 4k?

1.) Support for 4K (4096x2160) XAVC Intra Recording
• Format: XAVC Intra
• Resolution: 4096 x 2160
• Wrap: MXF
• Quality: 4:2:2 10bit

My recollection was that it was 4.2.2 in HD and 4.2.0 in 4k. This is a big improvement, plus the histogram. It makes the 4k much more useable, especially for green screen, etc.

Doug - when you say you're "rebuilding" your All Files and Scene Files - what do you mean? Just manually re-entering the settings?

Yes, I'm going back through the menus to make any necessary changes to set the camera up the way I normally like it to be configured for certain shooting situations. Almost everything is the same, but I'm making a few changes as I go along.

No. You could probably do that, but in my case, all of my ALL files are similar enough that is is easier for me to modify the "master" file and save it with one name. Change the settings, and save it with a new name. Rinse, and repeat. The other way would be to call up each of my old All files, one at a time, change them, and re-save them, but that would be much harder and possibly more prone to having a problem.

BTW, all files aren't as well implemented on the FS7 compared to other cameras and I try not to use them any more than I have to. I hate the rebooting. That is a big flaw in the camera that very few people complain about.

Yes, the ALL FILES need to be rebuilt. I updated my camera to FW 2.0, did ALL RESET and then loaded my FW 1.1 ALL FILES. I could not display the WFM in ANY mode in 4K (both Cine EI and Custom). I did ALL RESET again and manually changed the settings menu by menu. Now WFM works in 4K and other resolutions (sadly with the same limitations as in FW 1.1). Overall the camera is somewhat more responsive after I trashed the old ALL FILES. This tells me that loading ALL FILES created using previous firmware is a bad idea.

Finally upgraded and happy to see nearly all my settings were still the same. Do i need to do an All-Reset and put them in all over again now?
What happens if i don't?

I'm sad to Say Sony added a few new bugs with FW2.0. Read about it here:

https://cameradoe.wordpress.com/

Yes, the situation with FW 2.0 is quite pathetic. I too noticed this issue. As you said, the LUT's are a tool, not just a fluff (even if they were, since they were advertised as a feature of the camera, they should simply work, no matter what they are). What's even worse is that the camera keeps changing the settings of MLUT's for the outputs and viewfinder, when changing resolution, completely randomly, I have not been able to find a pattern in it.

Is there already a next firmware scheduled by Sony or not ?

Not a date yet but Juan Martinez from Sony said yesterday (emphasis added): "Sorry, the PXW-DCI Internet thing is a hoax. The PXW-FS7 will continue to evolve gaining important creative capabilities in future firmware builds."
