Panasonic issued a new firmware update for the G5 and GH3. Click here to download the fw: http://panasonic.jp/support/global/cs/dsc/download/fts/index.html
These are the new GH3 features:
  1. “Low Light AF” is added that makes it possible to set focus on the subject in low-lit situations (-3EV).
  2. “Silent Mode” is added which suppresses electronic shutter, shutter sound, operation sound and flash emission with a single setting.
  3. “Exposure Comp. Reset” is added which resets the setting of exposure compensation to ±0 whenever the camera is turned off or the shooting mode is changed.
  4. Performance of AF is enhanced in use with H-PS14042 and H-PS45175.
  5. Connection problem with Apple Mac computers via Wi-Fi is fixed.

i made a test in my very low light living room , before and after firmware update , and i cant find any difference . On both firmwares i cant focus on anything with very low light.

Still no fix on the display info disappearing?? They really need to fix that.

Well, the claim made, is that this is due to the OLED screen - if the info stays too long, it will cause burn-in on the screen, that's why the info disappears. If that's true, then I don't see them ever 'fixing' that on the GH3. Maybe one day the OLED screens won't have that problem, but that's not going to be relevant to the GH3.

The Samsung Galaxy S3 is OLED. I don't see the Android notification bar burned in on mine. I wonder if this claim is legitimate or just a plausible excuse.

I think the OLED burn in claim is rubbish. The level display never disappears so why don't I have any burn in issues with that?

Considering the many issues Panasonic could address with firmware, why do they give us this mostly useless update?

It's possible that much of the firmware is burnt to ROM & can't be modified. That's what Jan from Panasonic said about the AF100 (though that camera was developed by a different division).

at least you can turn of the level screen.

I understand why people want its always on, but am i the only one that doesn't have a problem with it?

Same with the Focus peaking.... it would be nice to have but its not, so i have to deal... coming from a 7D and doing run and gun wedding videos style and i do fine.
i think Panasonic knows that it should have been there but I just think it phyically can't be done otherwise it would be there.

We've now had two firmware updates for the GH3 in a fairly short time-frame, so who knows where this camera will be by next year. ( it almost seems like Panasonic rushed the GH3 to market, and are slowly getting caught up with fully functioning firmware for it )

I haven't updated my GH3 yet. Can I back up all the settings I have before I do the update? I'm assuming the update will wipeout all the custom settings I have created right?
