FS7: New firmware for the FS7 will allow you to bake in gain/offset in Cine EI

I don't use SQ that often but in light of the Sony firmware suspension notice thought I would check out this issue with v4.3. Regardless of the SQ frame rate the camera, FS7 Mk 1, exhibited absolutely no issues recording perfectly and playing back okay. Tried it numerous times. In my case I can confirm this update seems to be okay with the genuine Sony 128GB XQD G Series Memory Cards. All my cards are genuine Sony 128 G series so can't vouch for other Sony cards or other brand cards.

I'm surprised how little discussion there is of this on this forum and on the internet in general. When you google it very little comes up.

Thanks for the feedback regarding your tests. When I read the description of the issue my initial thought was that it might pertain only to non-Sony cards. Like you, I only use Sony cards. If the issue only happens with non-Sony cards it is curious that Sony's description of the issue did not mention that. If there is no issue when using Sony cards, one would think Sony would mention that in defense of their Sony branded cards if not also as a selling point on behalf of their cards. You'd think the notification would warn "Don't use the junk cards. ONLY use Sony cards and you won't have any issues.".

You are assuming too much. I doubt that it has anything at all to with which brands of cards are being used. Heck, it wouldn't surprise me if all XQD cards, regardless of brand, were manufactured in the same factory anyway.

Like many firmware problems, whatever the problem is, it most likely only occurs under a very specific set of circumstances and settings that most people may never use and that's how the bug slipped by the developers in the first place. I could ask Sony, but I don't care enough to bother. :-) One more example of why I always wait a few weeks before updating firmware after it comes out. But with that said, I'll bet if I did do the update there is less than a 0.001% chance I'd encounter a problem.

There’s a problem with the update?

See what I did there? I updated and have used S&Q multiple times since with 128 GB Sony XQD G cards without problem.

I don't know if it's connected but I updated the firmware recently and was experimenting with some S&Q settings and every time I tried to shoot at 180fps I would get a card error after a few seconds. I would be able to rebuild the clip and it would play back as expected but when I tried to record again the same thing kept happening. I thought it was maybe something to do with that I had recorded mixed PAL and NTSC clips on the same card, so I wiped the card and reformatted whilst in NTSC mode but again got the error. I tried Sony 128 GB G series and Lexar 64 GB 2933x series both of which gave me the same error. I was shooting lots of 4K 60fps and HD 150fps clips and never had an issues, just with the 180fps. I rarely shoot at that fps but I'm sure I've never had any issues in the past.

I was looking online to see if anybody had encountered the same issue but couldn't find anything. Now I have just stumbled upon the issue with the update on this thread and wonder if that is what has caused the issue? Has anybody else had any issues with recording at 180fps? Could it potentially be another issue?

Cheers

I guess this shows it is probably prudent to wait for the firmware to be out for a while before updating.
