How long, or if ever, do you think it will be until Canon releases new firmware for the T2i/550D to downsize to 1080P instead of downrez.

I don't think the T2i has the CPU power to sample all the pixels on each frame and then gracefully downscale it. The current line skipping algorithm is purely to make it work within the resources of the camera, and they can already overheat sometimes as it is.

I predict that Canon will fix this in a future release, with more powerful processors, maybe Digic V?

No, never.

This kind of stuff is not easily fixed with a simple firmware release. A lot of it is linked into the capabilities of the hardware, and if they are already working at capacity then there is nothing you can do with firmware to improve it.

Also the poll is a little bit silly. Canon would not offer a firmware which improves image quality of a current camera 2 years from now, let alone 10. They are going to put revenue into new cameras which they can make more profit on.

I voted for 3 months just because there wasn't an option for "stop expecting the world out of a 700 dollar camera body."

Sorry for asking a stupid question. I thought it would be something they could fix. I have only had this camera for 3 days so I don't know much about it.

You've had it for three days, admittedly don't know much about it, and you've already decided that the picture quality isn't up to your exacting standards?

Countdown to a "Should I keep my t2i or buy A GH2/60D/7D" thread.

I know. I was making a joke about how every day or two there's a thread like that, primarily started by people who haven't taken the time to learn the camera they're complaining about.
