This is a different issue, and an announcement of a new firmware update (beyond 1.09) that will be coming, but isn't out yet.

From the description of what the firmware's attempting to address, that hawk picture looks like it, sure.

I think that is definitely the problem. Kind of scary though - I hope it is something that can be fixed with a firmware update. It seems it has to do with the sensor retaining it's image too long, so it may be a hardware problem. Does the 5D mkII suffer from this?

Seems like its affecting still performance, not video, if I understand correctly.
Not to say it isn't a big deal, seeing as the vast majority of users of the 7D are probably using it for stills - but probably won't have much of an affect on the members here.

But - good to know Canon recognizes the issue and is planning on releasing new firmware to (hopefully) fix it.
