New firmware 1.21 for HMC150 available for download

Read the pdf, the mystery of the recorder is revealed along with the meaning of life and what Elvis is up to these days.
But the rocket scientists at panasonic say that the camera has to be powered through the charger not by battery. AAARRRGGHHH mine got nicked. Anybody in Durban want to lend me a charger for 15min?

What PDF? The installation PDF is dated 1/8/10 and doesn't explain the recorder.

I complained to PASS that there was no 64-bit version of the update. Their response below gives MUCH MORE INFO on what has changed in this update :zombie_smiley:

If you do not have a 32-bit OS on your PC, please complain to PASS! If they get enough users bitching, they might release 64-bit versions in future.

Dear Customer,

Thank you very much for supporting Panasonic professional AV products.

We are very sorry to tell you, but there is no plan to release 64bit version software.
If the current version of your HMC152EN is 1.20, there is no problem for you to keep it using as it is because vsi5012e upgrade is just for productivity improvement in our factory. (my text bolding)
If your version is lower than 1.20, could you please ask it to your dealer or contact the service office in Australia shown in webpage below ?

Again we apologize the inconvenience.

Subject: [P2 Asset Support System] Question
----

Latest update for my HMC152EN - vsi5012e - is not available for Windows 64-bit PCs.
All of my PCs are 64-bit.
Will you be making a 64-bit version available soon?

Maybe the RECODER is how the HMC150 communicates through the ether with Panasonic's factory for productivity improvement :Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)

Hello, Rikki,
My HMC151E accepts the update 1.21-00-0.00 for the HMC 150, published in the issue no. 36 of Panasonic newsletter from October 21, 2010
Greetings from Germany,
Berndt.

All products need to be tested. My guess is that the firmware speeds up the testing procedures for new cameras coming off the production line.

Really? Where - care to copy and paste cos I didnt see it mentioned.

HDVFreak - thanks!

I actually bit the bullet on Saturday and ran the upgrade. As noted it wouldnt work with a charged battery so I had to hunt down my actual mains charger.

After upgrade I went out shooting and perceived that the grain/noise looked to be reduced - I will confirm this later.

It however did not fix the problem I have with strobe lighting causing terrible image break up :(

Really looking forward to hearing you thoughts on the grain/noise being reduced as a result of the update :)

Would like to know more about the noise / grain as well but really I find the 150 to be pretty darn clean.

Same club, same camera settings/scene file

Its a touch better, not miles better though.

Mods where did my post go ?

Sorry my browsers seems to not be refreshing ...why Oh why whenever there's an update for Iexplorer does the old one start to hick up for no reason ... ! Dont mind me

Yes Barry ...I apologise .IE8 has been doing nutty these days.

BTW I think this firmware is worth the upgrade the noise that I was complaining about has drastically been reduced .
Looks very filmlike grain really small . Noise in the blacks are pleasing and not dancing around like the stars of dancing with the stars.
Looks like Pana is sharing some of the imaging technology of the AF-100 ..this is an assumption I could totally be wrong :)
Basically you can turn op the sharpness settings to +7 if you want some eyebleeding detail and get very little noise artifacts...dont expect ex1 sharpness ofcourse .

Havent seen anything else that has been improved .
I do find the installation a bit cumbersome , maybe because it was our first try aswell ...blushes.

Goodluck !

That's what I've been waiting for, finally!!

Do I dare to hope that they might improve the 25 mbt/s to maybe 50?....

Please help me understand; I'm on a 64 bit windows 7, can I run the update from and older 32 bit computer and still be able to edit the footage on my 64 bit computer? =S
