New film shot on the 7D with explanation of how it was done.

Oh man this has been a common topic here it seems. So many people wanting to know how to make their camera shine when it's really the people behind the camera. Really liked how you actually show the before and after in an evolving way. Two thumbs dood.

Loved everything about all three tutorials except the audio level...normalize it please. I had headphones on and cranked everything WFO and still could hardly hear you.

nice but he talks about importance of clothes etc and in third vid with 7d he let the man wear most problematic t-shirt for 7D he possibly could get.

really? what is that shirt problematic? Also you gotta remeber this is my first time working with the canon 7D... and I dont even go on blogs readin what other people say, I just go and try it all out myself to see what works and what doesnt. But id love to hear why that shirt is so problematic, because in that film we had an art desiger who chose all the clothes based on the locations, mood etc

Personaly after seeing the rough cut of the film I think it all works. To be honest I know the camera is not without its problems, but the image quality is not one of them. At least it wasnt to me while working on this film.

Please explain...

Thnx!

The shirt with thin lines like that makes moire with the 7D, it would be very bad on a big screen.

exactly, but its also visible on small youtube screen on your wide shots, lines on his shirt are messy ,7D doesnt like straight bright/dark/bright lines close to each other on wide shots. On close ups its better.
You could update your video with this info.
Its not a big deal in your footage cause it doesnt look that messed up BUT its always better to not have this problem at all and change shirts with your actor or give him other one without any regular patterns.

thnx for letting me know. Ill keep that in mind when shooting in the future. Its a good thing that the shot is so quick. That's one of the reasons why the shot was staged the way it is, so bold and straight forward... cuz based on the script we knew that in the final film the shot wont be on the screen for longer then a second... but I'll have another look at it this week when i go to see the rough cut preview on the big screen. I'll let you guys know how it looks. In general though. Those kinda problems with antialiasing are evident on all HD cameras, they're just way too sharp... that's why its always good to use the SOFT FX filters. I even use those when shooting on fast iso film stocks. Specialy the fujis.

Thanks so much for posting these. You have no idea how much seeing this helps with some of these concepts.

I have passed this along to several people in my film production class. Lectures and other stuff really cannot explain it the way you do visually and it really helps certain concepts click.

Please keep these comming and thanks once more for passing along your knowledge on these subjects.
