New film shot on A1 Without Life.. (A Test of Surrealist Filmmaking)

"Director Wayne Smith III Brings us a thought provoking exploration into the mind of a woman in her attempt to save her brother's Soul.

Based on the experimental works of people such as: David lynch, Michel Gondryand and others who choose to walk in the same light of the Surrealistic/ Avant-Garde.

It's open to interpretation.

Would you really call Michel Gondry and David Lynch "experimental" filmmakers? They're definitely part of the arthouse indie collective, but experimental and avant-garde definitely carry a connotation of film that seeks to ignore classical convention and technique within cinematography, editing, narrative. Generally, Michel Gondry and David Lynch are conventional in these respects - mostly.

I liked it. Deeply brooding and introspective. I don't think I'd call it surrealistic though. Even if you think it's surrealistic that's a pretty narrow label that will probably get people dissing you on the label rather than talking to you about the film. Art house is a broader label that will do fine.

Almost all the color grading and effects worked well and added something except two. When they carried her body up the hill and it went from either bleach-by-pass or black and white to full color was jarring. The bright colors didn't fit the mood of the somber feelings that were needed.

Likewise a few seconds later when the brother and sister were talking and you didi the wipe from top to bottom. That seemed gratuitous and not in context. The scene was either a memory or two spirits, but either way should have stayed with something like bleach-by-pass to continue the other worldliness of the scene, IMHO.

I know you were probably working with a limited number of potential actors, but I might have reversed the casting of the brother and the bad guy. The villian seemed younger, and slight. A villian generally needs to seem strong to be the best villian, while a victim can be younger and weaker.

Overall a great job. Keep up the good work. Also remember that art house works will only appeal to certain people so don't feel bad about that. It's just the nature of the beast.
