Not overly impressed.
Looks like I may be taking Avid up on their crossgrade offer.
Hey, you can get them both for $1300.00
What happened to the rest of the suite?
I was thinking of the same thing , Did i miss something ?
At that price I probably will, but I prefer MANUAL control of things, not imovie-ish automatic everything.
This is just Final Cut Pro X. Right? Maybe that's why it's $299...no upgrades on the rest of the apps. Huge shame if that's the case.
Did anyone think that $299 could be the price of the Updatte?
I mean, FCP 7 is $999 but the upgrade is $299...
They say you will be able to download it from Mac appstore for AS LOW AS $299. It sounds to me like it's not the price we will pay. (unless you own FCP7 of course)
Also... How long would it take to dowload a 80gb software!?! Doesnt make sense to me...
This means they made it smaller, MUCH SMALLER! too small? You can already forget the entire studio. They will probably come out as separate softwares.
Now the $299 starts making sense. But still, This whole thing is sketchy.
I truly hope I am wrong and FCP X "Studio" will kick a$$
Still excited anyways
If the $299 price is indeed the entry price for the full version of the SUITE, then Apple is making a really smart move, IMHO. They are gonna get a lot of converts to fcp. People who are gonna be buying new Macs.
Part of me likes that it's only $299 (I already have the full studio version), part of me is concerned that making it so cheap (and easy to use) that it's almost like a downloadable iPhone app and now anyone can/will create flicks that at least "technically" will be amazing. As a photographer, I saw the same thing happen when higher end digital cameras and photo editing software started becoming really cheap and now so many people are shooting amazing stuff that the market is saturated. There's always still room to make pro level $$ for those with real talent, but one can somewhat make up for lack of talent by learning the technology to manipulate it to make it look good in post.
Photo example - one used to know how to balance light in the field with GND filters, and properly white balance for film, and nail the exposure and composition in one shot. Now someone can shoot RAW and miss the exposure by several f-stops and simply use a slider to nail the exposure in post... and bracket three shots and simply combine the best lighting elements into one image and come away with a stunning image (that's technology, not camera talent)... or completely screw up the white balance in the field and use a slider to nail it perfectly in post... or screw up a composition but easily crop it in post... and adjust contrast, brightness, color punch, etc., with a few clicks. Film photography used to be a skilled art form. Now mind-boggling shots are a dime a dozen.
The first digital video wave leveled the playing field between very serious hobbyists and the big production houses. The new wave is leveling the playing field between Bob and the big production houses.
