New FCP due in spring

Which version of PP do you use? I only ask because it currently already does everything you say you hope is incorporated into FCP. Just curious.

It was permire pro 2 at least 4 years ago

And I have used it sence and it is indeed very good and does a lot that I hope a new FCS will do.

The two systems just seame to leapfrog each other with every version.

I was so impresed wit FCP 4 years ago that I swiched platforms, bought the software, and bought apple stock.

I like a one vender

I mean I like having everything come from one vender and I will wait out the slow updates if it means never having problems I usta have when the OS was from Microsoft, the hardware was from Dell, and the editing software was from Adobe

My new computer does it relatively well but honestly not as well as my old 4 year old pc

It's not a hardware problem, the software just isn't optimized for displaying the waveform.

Dosent the latest iMovie display waveforms well? I only used it once playing with it.

S.M. You absolutely can rename files in FCP, and have that change them in the Finder. Right click the file in the Browser, chose "Rename" / "File to match Clip". Bam.

Indeed imovie does show wave forms without any visable "thinking" or trouble whatsoever. it shows peeking with a different color and the waveform grows in response to changes in volume. I know that when folks started stirring for a new FCP there where rumors that it would get the imovie treatment and folks went crazy. I don't want it dumbed down any more than anyone else but imovie does what it does very very well.

Hi Chadfish, yeah I know you can do that... just too many steps. What would be wrong with renaming the file in the FCP browser and then it is just renamed in the finder? Why click, make your selection, etc? Too many steps.

Renaming the files in finder based on what they are named in final cut pro ould be terrible to have as a default. If you ever work on shared storage and rename a master clip while someone else is using that same Quicktime in their project - BAM. Media offline. Not to mention media offline for any after effects or nuke or 3d software, etc... that is using the original quicktimes. Media tracking need to happen with metadata, not filenames. Plus, what happens if you duplicate a master clip and rename one but not the other? Which does finder rename to and what happens to the original masterclip in all sequencers its being used in?

You can use FCP on a PC ?

Here's a real stupid idea: why not at least have a simple keystroke to do a cut with?
The most important and basic operation in the whole process and they forgot it. With all the shortcuts they have come up with, they couldn't have thought of this?
It is an editing program after all.
I cannot understand why I actually still have no other choice but to do a cut manually with the razorblade tool on the timeline. Which means I either occasionally have an inaccurate cut or I must expand the timeline in order to be sure before doing it. Why not be able to see a frame in the viewer hit the keystroke and move on?
You have a shortcut for the tool, but not for the operation itself. Really dumb.
Or how about being able to make a note(or sticky) on an image on the timeline. How difficult is this for the rocket scientists over at Apple to have figured that out? (Especially when Avid has already shown them the way)
Just ridiculous, or have I missed something?

no Im's sorry i should have been more clear.

my 4 year old PC runing premire will render and display waveforms better than my brand new i7 imac running the latest final cut Pro

Now the PC wont do anything else, wont handle the Video on import and wont handle HD at all but waveforms it does well.

I don't think it's hard to rename a bunch of clips, then right click all of them and choose to rename the source file. After the actual retyping of them name, we're talking 1.5 seconds of work to make it reflect on the source files.

Control+V is the default 'add edit' key command. You can of course customize the keyboard layout to whatever you want. W/regards to the "sticky note" idea do you mean something beyond using a marker to do it?

I hit "B" and cut wherever I want. With snapping on the razor snaps to frames, to to the courser. So really it's not much work. Hit B, and click.

I am not trying to start a tit-for tat here guys. The rename works for you, great. For me that is what I wish for my workflow. Different people, different workflows... Pretty simple.

• Fix QT gamma
• Do something...ANYTHING with DVDSP
• Leave the interface alone
• Allow my projects to be used in older versions of FCP
• Auto-scrolling timeline
• "Share via FaceTime" option (for some reason, this is the only feature I'm actually expecting to make the release)

Unlike hardware news (aka: leaks) software is a bit easier to control. It can be kept completely in-house, and testers are much more likely to keep shtum about talking about the product, because hey, why ruin a good thing?

If you ask me, this is going to be a waiting game. We'll only get to find out more about the new release when Apple are ready to show us.

That being said, it doesn't stop me from looking forward to it, excited about what they might change and introduce. The announcement can't come any sooner!

Earlier in this thread i made a statement about not holding my breath for native AVCHD editing but i have changed my mind and i am really really hoping for it. it would save me tons of hard drive space (and and untold amount of money) and completely change the way i archive projects. And i know Adobe can do this already but i love Final cut.
