New DVX100B causes major hair loss

Hello everyone,

I seem to be having a problem getting my new DVX100B to record a true blue sky. I've previously shot with a DVX100A and have never had this problem.

No matter what I do skies come out with a pink hue. I've tried adjusting color temp and chroma levels. I've been in touch with Panasonic and they sent me a loaner camera. Here is a link to some comparison frames.

I shot identical footage with both cameras set to factory default settings. The loaner camera produced a reasonably accurate color using manual white balance. But my camera produced a more violet color. The problem is even more apparent on auto and the preset 5.6k setting.

If anyone has any suggestions as to what I might be doing wrong, or what might be wrong with my camera I would sure appreciate any input.

Best regards

Looks more like a difference in color saturation, not a white balance issue.

are you manually white balancing using a white card in full sunlight and completely filling the lense? Using a preset or white balancing on something not pure white or a white card with a shadow on it can throw you off.
Regardless, just bump down your color saturation and see if you get what you want.

Are your scene files between the two cameras the exact same? It looks like something in the scene file settings is different.

Is there a possibility your camera is a gray-market camera? I'm not sure if that makes a difference or not, just asking.

Send the scene files from the loaner to yours, then see if it is still off. also you could try a factory reset.

Thanks for the input.

Yes, I am white balancing in exactly the manner you describe.

How do you adjust color saturation on the DVX?

Many thanks

Menu/Scene File/Chroma Level(-7...0...+7)
check out page 68 in the owners manual----nice flowchart breakdowns of the camera mode and VCR mode menus.
wouldnt be surprised if your chroma level was above +5.
let us know what you find out!

Edit--If you find other settings such as master ped, detail level, gamma, etc are set all over the place, you can always go back to factory presets for a given scene file (f1, f2, f3....) as a basic starting point:
Menu/Scene File/Save-Init
select "Init" and when it asks you to save select "Yes"
