First of all, this is the greatest forum ever. I dabble in vegas, photoshop, filming and interviews. I film JiuJitsu tournaments and edit for website and dvds as a hobby. Definitely not lucrative. I'm trying to work on a documentary non related to jiu jitsu.

to the point, I want to learn how to be a cameraman. I see there is a lot more to shooting than just point and shoot. Besides practicing, is there some tutorials, books or dvds i can buy? I prefer dvds.

But i'm sure I will get a lot of knowledge here on this forum. Vegas, Photoshop, DVX user forums all in one place....this is heaven.

Well, there's a TON of books and DVDs on all facets of the art of Cinematography.

Perhaps a start would be in regards to the camera specifically, our very own DVXUSER Barry Green's DVX book and DVD:

I also have a simple but effective and well done DVD on lighting called 'DV Enlightenment':

And... I also have another DVD on the DVX that has an interview with the award winning (with the DVX) cinematographer, Nancy Schreiber called 'DVD Panasonic AG-DVX100: Tips, Tricks, & Basic Operation'

And a few searches on this forum will get you a few threads on recommendations on books, here's one for example:

I have at least 8 books on lighting alone, and then if you want to move on to an advanced course on setting up shots (blocking) you can order the amazing but not for the faint of heart 'Hollywood Camera Work':
