hello, just got my dvx ae recently
very very happy with it cuz my last camera was a $650 AU cannon mv700i
ive been reading the posts hear 4 about like 2 months now and got my dvx
2 weeks ago ive been pretty busy and still am so dont really hav to much time to figure out some things 4 my self that i want to know.

1: how do u do the time lapse thing so like u can c a plant grow, or a building being made or watever.

2: i use premier 6.5 and after effects 6, why is it that if i connect my camera straight to my tv and playback footage it looks awesome and then after editing and saving on uncrompreesed, put it back on dv and connect the camera up agen and watch, the image is like blurrier and not as smooth at all (it still looks awesome though but just not as good)

3: i really dont understand 4:3, 16:9 at all, like what the difference is between them on a normal tv, or on a plasma or on hi-def.

4:is their a difference in qualiity or anything like that when the shutter speed is on high cuz i filmed some horror footage with strong lights on the subject inddors, and set the shutter speed as high as it can go and the look is awesome but doz it actually do anything to the quality.

5:iz adobe premier a good capture device and why wen using different capture devices the quality changes heaps and in some cases, ( windows movie maker) their is less picels (640,480), wat is the best capture device.

6: wat iz a dvd burning program that actually burns dvds that work on normal dvd players not just computers.

7: wen filming with one camera and u change angles and stuff how do u keep the sound sounding familiar, not like the camera angles just been changed.

8:wen u are making short films and stuff do u use 1 camera or multiple.

sorry 4 all those questions , some may be really stupid but ive just started out so any help would be aporeciated, also just wanted to say that this is an awesome message board which has an awesome community that helps poeple like me, thanks alot.

Dude. Your spelling is horrific.

Most of these can be answered through Barry's book. Plus a crapload more that you never even thought of. Get it through this site.

Man shadow your from my home city....... but you could not spell Sydney.. Im scared and there are wolves after me. Seriously grab the DVX book you'll never look back.

Check through these forums for insurmountable information.... check relevent forums.. i.e. sound etc

Hey Shadow Dog....
I think i can Help Ya out....here we go

1. The Time lApse...Unfournatly the DVX does not have this feature, well I have The DVXB and i know that it doesnt im not sure which version you have but i know for the B they got rid of it.

2.I use Adobe Premiere also and im not sure i have this problem.check your capture settings and prject prefrences, make sure its all at the best quality i mean if your saving it uncompressed there shouldnt be this problem becuase the entire time it remains digital.??

3. 4:3 is the Size of a standard tv. you know like a Square...Widescreen tvs are 16:9 little longer then Higher. if you shoot 4:3 on your DVX and play back on standard TV you will fill the Screen. If you play this same footage on a Widescreen TV you will have black bars along the Side of your footage....16:9 footage played back on standard TV will have the black bars along the Top of screen and played back on a widescreen wil fill the entire screen, the difference is basically what you will be playing the footage on afterwards,, it doesnt really effect any image Quailty. so shoot for what you will be playi the footage on UNLESS you want the black bars which gives the DV a somewhat film look

4. You will get more information. between Motion, High shuttere speed the Shutter is not open very long, then closes and opens quickly agaiin....setting the speed higher it will darkedn the image cause less time for light to get in. so its good you had strong lights...Its good for slowing down when High Shutter speed is slowwed down youll have more detail and less Computerized Frames....So full speed u get a nice look, a saving private ryan look the picture looks Sharp and detailed, and also Great for Slowing down.

5. cant comment on this to much i use Premiere to Capture always have and dont have a problem with it...???

6.I use and always have Adobe Encore, I burn all kinds of dvds for distribution And they work great i have a video productiuon Biz and i have copied lots of Dvd they work on dvd players with no problem and with the use of Phto phot shop premieere the compatiblity gives you methods to do Anything you want....you save a menu file in phhotoshop it Automatically up dates the menu in Encore definalty Great

7. This is Done on Location When capturing Audio on Locatioon the Key is to ISOLATE the diolugue a good Boom mic shotgun mic with let you get in close and Capture the Diolouge and ONLY the Dialouge this is Key!!! so in post when cuting together different shots, the ambience sound doens seem to change Because all ambience and SFX anythign OTHER then the diolouge should be Adding in post, SOUND DESIGN is the biggest part of post production..
so isolate the dioulouge on Location then in Post add eveythign else so it remains Uniform between Cuts.!!

8. Short...i think all you need is one.. make sure you have agood shot list, and Floor plan of you camera set ups and shoot what you need with the same camera, no need to have multiple cameras. unless your shooting stundts i guess

Okay there ya go Hope i help let me know yo!

Keep Shooting!
