New DP Reel

The images are fantastic, strangely enough I feel some of the comments on my Pulse Cinema reel would be warranted here... Although technically beautiful some of the images don't move along quickly enough and the demo seems long to me... I found myself scrubbing forward to see the images... I think you could definitely shorten the demo a good bit and still have all the shots, just shorten the shots... otherwise great work...

Hey Nathan,

Wow - great looking work. Nicely lit and beautifully shot!

As an actual reel it does feel a little slow (very dramatic, but slow). I would be afraid that someone thinking of hiring my services as a DP might pigeon hole me into these sorts of slower, more "poetic" pieces (not a bad thing necessarily) but may not think to use you for a quick cut style MV.

Regardless - you have real talent!

btw - I noticed on your site and in your sig the reference to CRAMCOMPRESSOR. Did you use one of these settings for all of your videos online? They look great.

thanks,

dmc

x 2 !!

Looks like you are ready for prime time my friend.

You may want to shuffle your shots around a little. At times it feels like you are watching a teaser rather than a demo. Also, you may wish to consider making some of the longer clips a little shorter to bring up the pacing.

Regardless, you have some crazy madd skillz dude. Great job!

Yeah, there is some beautiful stuff in here. I agree, as an editor and director myself, I feel there are shots you could cut down but it's always about finesse. Some shots could be cut down and some could stay the same. I LOVE the black and white shot of the girl looking into camera with the blood on her face. That's a shot that could be left long in my opinion, it's beautiful!

I would keep what shots you like best in this reel, and then go from the best to the least favorite and get rid of the least favorite and cut the reel down by a minute or so. Good choice in music, by the way. Where are you living right now?

Nathan,

What is the adapter, lenses and lighting you typically use? You always have the cleanest most beautiful images from the HVX. Please share the knowledge. Amazing stuff to say the least.

Wow! Lots of great thoughts guys. I agree its a bit slow, and mostly due to the pacing of the actually shots and actions. There were so many more even longer ones that I cut.

I found my self leaving out alot of shots with more action because they stand out so much against the slower stuff.

This helps alot as I continue to work on it, thanks!

Most the Shots are on the HVX with the Redrock. There are a couple RED shots in there too. Basically its shots in order from several films.

The Redrock stuff is almost all with Zeiss ZF lenses and the RED Stuff is with Zeiss superspeeds.

Yup. All the encodes are made using one of the compression presets.

nathan, i've always been a fan of your cinematography. beautiful, beautiful stuff. your red footage looks amazing... when and where can i see that?!?!

I agree with them that it did have a very slow feel that might make it seem as if that's your only style, though we know it's probably not.

good looking stuff man.

Loved it and enjoyed every frame.
Didn't feel like fast forwarding or nothing.
Actually wanted to watch it again and I did :)
Nice!
