Adobe Premier Pro 2.0 For Hvx200?

Why did I think the Adobe Premier Pro 2.0 Suite support HD for HVX200? And I bought the whole package......could anyone clarify as I was pretty sure that it did and now that I am using it for the first time, I'm not so sure....does this mean that I have to switch to another software for my PC which is almost impossible as I am in Central Asia until the fall. Thanks for your help.

Or get cineform's Aspect HD - more expensive than raylight but I like it better. Cineforms website can explain more. But in short, yes you need to spend more money, sorry. Or switch to Edius which handles mxf's natively.

Premiere handles MXFs natively if you add Raylight.

Without Raylight (or CineForm or DV Rack 2.0 HD) Premiere can't do anything with HVX files. With Raylight, Premiere Pro has excellent HVX support.

Thank you very much for all the help.
I DV Rack HD 2.0 --- I recorded as a trial to tape - and now...can't download the tape or hear sound???

Help! Can't find my SOUND!

I am stuck in central Asia. I have taped 1.5hrs of International Women's Day celebrations by univ students in Kazakhstan to SD tape. While playing back on the HVX200 and through DVRack and Premier Pro 2.0 --- NO SOUND! I have a stereo Audio-TEchnica AT835ST mike; Those difficult buttons for CH1 /CH2 are set to the biggest dots; VCR settings are:
Recording settings: rec speed = SP;
audio rec = 48k(16bit)
1394 TC regen = on
TC mode = DF (blue)
TCG =Free Run (blue)
TC Preset = -------- (blue)
1394 UB Regen = on

UB Mode = FRM Rate blue)
UB Reset = ------------ (blue)
1394 In Preset = off (blue)

Playback Functions : (I forgot to set these...:((
32K(12bit) Audio = ST1
Audio Out tape = CH1-CH2

AV IN/OUT Setup:
A.Dub Input = A_IN
1394 Out = On

CAMERA MENU:
rECORDING SETUP: Rec Format = 480i/24P
Rec speed = SP
Audio Rec = 48k (16bit)
MIC AC = ON
MIC Gain1 = -50dB
MIC Gain2 = -50dB
TC Mode = DF (blue)
TCG = Free Run

AV IN/OUT SETUP:
HP MODE = Recording

I have a separate digital recording of the sound but it is not of very good quality....what can I do to save the soundon the tape, if anything? I forgot to check all the settings and pretest the camera as the play had started.....probably also forgot to set the correct parameters and completely forgot that the VCR mode also had separate settings....

Thanks for your help. I was hoping to put it on YouTube sometime next week.

What difficult buttons and what big dots are you referring to?
Did you monitor sound while recording with headphones?
If so was it there then, did you see the level meters moving?
When you play back in the camera do you see the levels meters moving?
Did you have the switches on the fron of the camera set to mic input?
Did you have the Ch1. & Ch2. switches on the side of the camera inside the LCD screen set to external inputs 1 & 2?

I'm confused by this.
  1. The DV Rack 2.0 trial does not support either HDV or DVCProHD, you need the full version.
  2. Even if you have the full version, you must install the DVCProHD Decoder and Batch Converter. They are included with DV Rack 2.0 HD, but are optional, and without installing them, you can't decode DVCProHD or convert MXF files to AVI files.
  3. If you recorded to tape with the HVX, you have simple DV25 video, and Premiere should have no trouble handling that, including the audio.

HVX200 on tape - no sound

HVX200 on tape - no sound

Hi and thanks for your help. I have the full version of DVRack 2.0 HD, I assumed I had paid (lots) for a complete version...I cannot update for the DVCProHD Decoder from my current internet connection in Kazakhstan...Ikeep getting an error msg and Softwrap is no help and ADOBE does not have online help...so I am stuck without the Decoder.

However, I recorded onto tape - simple SD and I also assumed I would have no trouble but donot know why I do not have sound and why I cannot capture the whole tape contents onto Premier Pro. I believe that I totally screwed up my HVX200 menu settings for Camera and VCR mode.

HVX200 sound and audio settings

HVX200 sound and audio settings

The HVX200 has 4 adjustable settings located just over the battery. One is "Scene File" (which I have set at F6, the EVF DTL setting, and 2 volume settings with circular dots of increasing size to indicate sound levels. These are very difficult to move but they are set at the loudest.

I did not monitor sound on headphones, I did not see volume meters, settings on camera (under the LCD screen) are set as follows: ch1select=input1; ch2select=input2; input1=on; input2=on; menu settings as previously posted.
So far I am more confused than ever - and as you can see I am a novice intending to use the HVX for multimedia educational purposes.....my learning curve is obviously very long even though I have a great deal of experience with public opinion polling.

I believe the problem is in the menu settings and I clearly do not understand them all or how they interact or cancel each other out... the HVX dvd/book has not been helpful. And, of course, I am in the middle of Central Asia, where one cannot buy anything, including software, and nobody knows anything about these topics.

Youre clearly over your head with the camera and DV Rack. READ the manual before you shoot anymore, reset the menu settings, monitor the audio with headphone, and worrying about editing later. If you dont know how to control even the audio at this point its senseless to figure out video. Trial by fire.

I think you have no sound to recover.

I don't mean this to sound like a lecture, but your 1st mistake was this:

Regarding these audio settings:

settings on camera (under the LCD screen) are set as follows: ch1select=input1; ch2select=input2; input1=on; input2=on;
With Ch1Select set at Input1, and Input1 set to on, you will only get sound if you have (or had) a mic connected to the Input1 XLR connection while recording.
The same is goes for the Ch2Select and Input2.

If you don't have external mic,(s) then you should have Ch1Select set to INT(L) and Ch2Select set to INT(R).

For future reference, Input1 refers to the XLR jack for your first external mic. (That is the top XLR jack and can be identified by looking at the front of the camera). Input2 refers to the XLR jack for your 2nd external mic. (That is the bottom XLR jack and can also be identified by looking at the front of the camera) (You don't have to have any external mics, but if you don't, then you must use the INT mics). If you have no external mics plugged in at either Input1 or Input2, then the settings you used would have prevented sound from being recorded.

Input1 and input2 only refer to "external" mics.

I'm presuming you have the owner's manual with you. Double-check your menu settings based on the manual, making sure your audio meters are turned on.

Hope this helps.

Your switch settings here are correct if you had the AT835st plugged into the XLR inputs which I presume you did. The input 1 & 2 "on" switches are for feeding phanton power to the mic if it requires it. If it has a battery then turn these off.
You did not however answer one very important question I asked.
What were the input switches on the front of the camera set to, MIC or LINE?
My guess is, it was on line input and that is why you have no sound. Also check menu #7 Display set up, and make sure the Level meter is set to "on".

I you had audio, you would have seen the meters moving while recording if they were set to on. I have to ask, what prompted you turn the level controls all the way up? Would you normally just open your iris all the way without looking at the picture?
Not monitoring audio while shooting, or at the very least getting a level set prior to shooting, is akin to not looking into the view finder while shooting and then later wondering why your picture is just black. Oooops forgot to take the lens cap off.

The HVX book/DVD is not meant to teach you how to operate the camera. I think it is very helpful in learning some of the intricate workings and settings of the camera and what it can do, presuming you have a basic understanding of camera operation.

No Sound Because Camera Front Settings Were Line And Not Mic

No Sound Because Camera Front Settings Were Line And Not Mic

Sorry to take up all your time....I was shooting an impromtu play in a cafe basement without much light and could not get very close to the stage...so I turned up the sound just in case; I am in a rush (poor idea) and mislaid my earphones ...a series of inane errors ....

The error I made was that inadvertently, don't know how, the input switches on the front of the camera were set to LINE and not MIC!

Thank you all very much for all your help.

It may be politically incorrect to put the Vaginal Monologues on the net anyway as some might perceive it as an insult to the sitting institutions here. Perhaps when I return to the US.
