New demo reel - feedback would be good.

Just a head's up.

Be careful that you have a full license to use the music bed you selected. Especially in the corporate world.

Thanks David. Question: for the purpose of this demo per se, doesn't the fact that YouTube has monetized it mean that copyright is not an issue?

your footage looks really clean and i'm sure someone needing a corporate video would be impressed with the sharpness, lighting, etc....but.....goodness that buddy holly song feels so out of place for what you are showing. i can't see how any of those serious visuals of corporate people mesh well with a song like that. it reminds me of something that would be playing during the montage scene of a movie like Dumb and Dumber with Jim Carey. the other thing that brought it down some was the same one cube transition you used the entire time. it screams iMovie in my opinion. i know the transition is also in FCP, but still. if you compare it to other film production companies doing corporate video it's so much more upbeat and they rarely use the stock transition effects that most people use when they first crack open their video editing software. your footage looks really clean, but the editing has done your work a disservice in my opinion. i'm no expert by any means, but i've been in the room with corporate types who have no idea what they're looking for, but will quickly blow off anything that they *think* they can do themselves. i think in your case a more exciting song with better editing - let me not say *better* because i dont want u to think it was bad editing....but *more exciting editing* - no stock transitions and i think it will come off ten times more interesting and you'll probably get more than one comment on the board.

good luck either way man.

*edit: as far as using copyrighted music...there's plenty of threads debating that topic.*

oh hey Mickey didn't notice your post til now... well I made a new one with a bit of After Effects in it... didn't really think much of the cube transition. I used the cube because I wanted a clean break from one section to another. If I do something manually it might come off as distracting? Never a big fan of fancy transitions...

Anyways here is the new one... http://tiny.cc/g9gsx

As for Buddy Holly... I wanted something that puts a smile on the viewer's face.... no song with an impact would actually jive well with this relatively generic corporate demo reel. I could use background elevator music but... just didn't want to. But suggestions are welcomed.

wasnt suggesting fancy transitions. a simple cut or fade would better than the genreic cube effect. just my opinion. the new reel looks just like the old one except with an andrew kramer plugin added on the lower thirds.

Having ads on your own demo reel looks pretty lame. Copyright is ALWAYS an issue.

"doesn't the fact that YouTube has monetized it mean that copyright is not an issue?"

Not at all...YouTube has millions of videos. You may get wacked by the music publisher.
