New Da Vinci Code doc filmed on DVX

Thanks Draccan. It's interesting to come across someone who knows the story so well. Yes, the Da VInci Code/Grail thing has been "done to death". Unfortunately it has mostly been done to death in such a way that the true story behind it has got lost. In the rush for some kind of 'certainty' or definitive take on the 'truth' behind Dan Brown's novel, much has been distorted and a great deal missed, especially when it is fashionable to debunk the whole thing. I am in the lucky position of being a friend of Henry Lincoln - in other words I have access to the COMPLETE story of how the hypothesis that Dan Brown used got created in the first place, and it's NOT what most people, (thanks to what's been said in the media so far) believe it to be.

What's more important, and what Henry and I attempted to do with this programme, is remind people that the Holy Blood stuff is just an idea - a suggestion. It's not provable and was never claimed to be. However, the discoveries that Lincoln has made in the 20 years since HBHG ARE provable - ie. the landscape geometry of Rennes-le-Chateau and Bornholm. They are facts - but as yet they have no explanation. So, the film is a kind of plea - please stop looking at all the Holy Blood nonsense, have a look at these extraordinary mathematically proven facts - and, someone, somewhere, explain them, please.

I am happy to say that I have a broadcast commission and am now co-producing a film for UK CHannel 5 and the History Channel that will be shown sometime May this year that follows very much the same idea. It won't be shot on a DVX, I'm sorry to say:( , though it may contain some of my archive DVX footage:cheesy: .

Er - sorry folks - this discussion probably belongs in Cafe a la DVX. I won't indulge myself again - promise:engel017: .

Very cool Michael. I have my head in the sand on the whole Da Vinci code thing, so no comment. I just think its great someone (one of many I might add) out there is really doing some great worthwhile projects with the DVX.

Your product looks pro and the trailer left me with questions I want answered good job!

Lars, I suggest you email me if you wish to talk about these things without getting off topic. Very briefly, I would mostly respond to your concerns in the negative. THat's why I am able to do something fresh with this material. The vast majority of programmes that have been shown to date on Discovery and elsewhere are innaccurate and misleading and have left a general attitude amongst the public that should be addressed.

But, hey - this is a DVX forum not a DVC forum. Any other questions on the subject matter to me personally, please.

Michael, great trailer, looks like the docu will be very interesting.
How'd you do the title trick at the end where the letters come out of the parchment and form the title?

Thanks Kroy.

It was done in After Effects. The clip was from a previous production of mine - before there was Vegas. If I was attemmpting to do again now, I would do it in Vegas, but the results would be slightly different, I think.

I did a hi rez scan of the original document, created a graphic for each of the letters that would 'fly' and assigned each one a separate layer in AE and animated accordingly.

Michael, I purchased your dvd on Amazon and thought it was terrific on all levels -
script, narration, editing, graphics, etc. In doing a documentary I have wondered about the decision to go with a female narrator or a male narrator. How did you make that choice? Have you submitted your film to any film festivals? It seems that with the debut of the DaVinci Code upon us, there may be a lot of interest in your work.

Wow. Thanks, ngmul.

Choice of narrator was a no-brainer. Sharon is my wife. Like myself she was a professional actor for 20 years and she is a terrific talent in front of the microphone. The whole track was done in an afternoon with hardly any retakes. What more can I say? I'm a lucky boy.

No, I have not submitted to any festivals. Not sure this is the sort of stuff that shows well at festivals - but what do I know? - I've never been to any!

Yes I've been lucky to be in the right place at the right time a far as the Da Vinci Code is concerned. Being a friend of Henry Lincoln's has placed me in a unique position. I had already made a travelogue film with Henry way before DVC was published called 'Henry Lincoln's Guide to Rennes-le-Chateau' (now available as 'Exploring the Da Vinci Code', would you believe?) and now I'm co-producer on a 1 hour special for Channel 5 and History Channel due to be aired in May.

To get this back in the DVX realm again:engel017: - I've been working with a DVW-700 and a fantastic cameraman on the broadcast thing and also my own Sony Z1. Can't beat the 'big' cameras for sheer workability and professional image production. No argument. However, I have much 16:9 25p footage of Henry Lincoln shot on my DVX for 'Origins' and some of it IS going to make its way into this programme. The point is, though, when I watch the 'pristine' DigiBeta and HDV footage and then see some DVX footage alongside I get this inexplicable feeling of longing to be working with the DVX again. There's just something about it. It's like being attached to a particular emulsion of film. A particular kind of 'analogue' life and warmth that no other camera seems to be able to emulate.

Hey ho.
