Yes I got one .... but I'm going to play around with the video.
I can´t believe it. Congratulation + hopefully you´ll enjoy this camera regarding the video mode (no doubt for photography). Why didn´t you wait for something like a d400, d700s... or whatever?
Look forward to hearing your informed comments on this largely overlooked camera. Be interesting to know real world differences to the D90 (the camera that started it all).
Cheers.
But you can set the aperture, lock the exposure and a few things like that so not perfect but it can be used for a few things.
Video Controllability is the exact same as D90. Sensor is the same as D90.
I don't know if it is or not. But you can set the aperture and lock exposure. Not manual for sure but you have some control.

It's pretty much the same as far as I could see from my D90 to 15 mins with the 300s in the store. As you could with the D90 you can set an aperture and lock it along with everything else but you have no idea which shutter speed it uses as well as ISO.

Really? Then how come we had to have manual lenses with an aperture ring to do that on the d90?
I wonder why Nikon would make the camera so that in live view when you adjust the exposure compensation the shutter speed numbers change on the screen and you can see the exposure change? (talking D300s here) if it really isn't changing to those numbers?
Anyway it is a damn nice camera!!
But it does change to those numbers, if you take a still.
If the liveview did do the shutter exactly as the aperture priority states, then sometimes it couldn't be visible in liveview. For example if the shutter went to 1/500 indoors, it'd just look too dark to compose your shots. Likewise if it went to 5" it'd just look white. You couldn't compose the shot in your viewfinder either because the mirror was open, so you'd be blind. So the camera automatically plays with the ISO/Exposure/Shutter visuals to help you preview things.
Canon's do the same thing. I've noticed on my 550D, when I'm in Aperture Prioty Mode and half-press to guage the shutter reading, the ISO will temporarally bump up to some unknown figure to compensate (when really if I took a still it'd be whatever setting I left the Aperture/ISO/Exposure Comp)
Also congratulations on the D300S
I would have gotten that too but I fell in love with the 550D.
to *change* the aperture. with auto lenses you can only *lock*.Really? Then how come we had to have manual lenses with an aperture ring to do that on the d90?
