New CP's for C300: TRUvid2, TRUcine, & TRUlog

I'd like to say big thanks to cowpunk again. We used your TRUlog profile for two music videos and one commercial and it comes out very pleasing (in my opinion it looks better than original c-log, especially highlight rolloff and skintones)

But one question (TRUlog PP):
For my taste, I fastly get too oversaturated deep oranges, when i crank up shadow saturation in post. I feel like (shadow) saturation being a bit unbalanced towards orange. I'm definitely not the most skilled colorist, (i'm a Assistant Camera by profession  ) but when grading my own music videos, i like getting deep saturated shadows.

So, could give me a little hint, how to tweak your Picture Profile? How to use the [color correction] setting?

As i understand it from the manual, firstly i have to find the desired color (->deep orange in my case) in [Area A Setting] and then dial in my changes in [Area A Revision]....

thanks a lot!

Glad you like the preset! I also prefer it in many situations to Canon's CINEMA CP. I sort of break it down like this: I use CINEMA in comedy and lighter pieces, TRUlog for drama and thrillers, and sometimes I'll use another log profile I made called EOSlog (EOS Std color matrix with C-Log gamma) in darker thrillers and horror genre material.

For tweaking the profile with the color correction setting, I find the best methodology is to arrange a still life scene with a wide variety of colors. For your case, it might be wise to set up a scene with lots of varying shades of orange in it as well. I believe the Area A color correction is being used in TRUlog to bring yellows onto the correct vector, but Area B is free to make further adjustments (this could be backwards, though, check in the settings which one is active before making extensive changes).

Anyway, you'll then cycle through the the numbers in [Area A Setting] until the desired shade is highlighted, then go into [Area A Revision] to change adjust your saturation or phase to taste. Let me know how it goes!

I was wondering if I could get the actually camera settings (Color Matrix and whatever else needs to be changed to achieve the profiles). I'm interested in having these profiles on my C100 to test. I tried to load the profiles but it seems it doesn't like the C300 profiles.

Thanks

Yes, please!

I'd also be very interested in these for my C100. Maybe you could tell us what the settings are and we can plug them into the c100 manually. Also, how many default CP's are loaded onto the C300? On the c100 there are only 3, cinema, wide DR and EOS std.

One of us would need to punch them in manually and then we could share the CP file. I'm not sure if there is another way?

Hey, guys - I've been really busy over the past few months and out of the DVXuser loop. I'm currently out of town and without my C300, but once I get back I'll type out the profile settings to port to the C100 if no one else has. I'll be back with my precious (C300) on Saturday ;)

Thanks Cowpunk. Do you make your way to Maine often? I live about 10 miles from Casco Bay, where you shot some stuff with your C300.

How funny! My in-laws have a house up there, right by South Harpswell. Beautiful area, in the summer at least!

So, I've been testing Art Adams' Alexa-emulating profiles against my Tru series, and so far I'm getting results that I didn't expect. In many cases, I greatly prefer the Tru settings. Art's CP's seem to swing reds too far toward the magenta side, especially in daylight white balance. And the skin tones are feeling a bit washed out. Has anyone else tried out those profiles? Are you getting similar results? I'll post some samples soon.

One thing I'm noticing, though, is that I'm not entirely thrilled with the performance of the Tru profiles in tungsten white balance, where red is turned to far to orange. I'm going to rework my profiles for separate tungsten and daylight balance profiles like Art has done with with his Alexa CP's.

Brian, agreed. The Alexa exterior CP made my Red Alfa Romeo magenta. Yellow is very desaturated, but at least yellow, unlike so many Canon CP's that make yellow greenish. Overall, the look is desaturated, which I don't mind.

Let us know if you find some tweaks you like with your CP's!

Dino, what firmware do you have installed on your C300?

I'm finding that my Tru profiles are also not acting the way I originally designed them for, and I'm currently updating them. I have a sneaking suspicion things changed after firmware 1.0.7.1.00 was installed on my camera during it's last service.
