As Michael points out all the Transcends we are talking about are MLC, not SLC.
I personally have no more knowledge than anybody on this forum as far as labeling, or internal design of the SD cards. What I know is that each sample will have a slightly different speed performance, as there is a distribution around the nominal speed as specified by the manufacturer. Some of the cards have a much lower speed than the others, resulting in errors while recording onto them. In fact E-films tests show, that if a card is slower than 9.5MB/s, the EX1/EX3 cameras will have a problem writing into them. This lower speed performance has something to do with the manufacturer quality control.
E-films did notice, that in the past several months there are more Transcend Class 6 cards that test slower than expected.
On the other hand, we offer them in our online store for 6 months now. So far we shipped hundreds of both Transcend 16GB and 32GB cards. I never paid attention to the strip color, except to say that they came through several different channels, all within 6 months. To date we have not had a single return.
Sure, the moment I post this message, one of our customers will report a problem
But as yet, no problems at all. I do not question the trouble reports by a few members here on his forum. But if somebody reads multiple reports posted by the same individuals, the impression that the sky is falling and the Transcend Class 6 cards are all junk for sure will be established.
The conclusion I would draw is that some of them are slower than others. Some are so slow they should not be used with the EX1/EX3 cameras. To test the memory, run the program :
http://crystalmark.info/software/CrystalDiskMark/index-e.html
And ensure that your card has a write speed of at least 10.5MB/s. The higher the better, but if it does not meet this minimum requirement, then the card should be returned.
Recently Transcend introduced Class 10 cards. Their nominal speed is for sure higher than that of Class 6 cards. The slower than nominal ones should be much faster than the standard Class 6 cards. It means there is more performance margin there, and for extra price one gets that peace of mind, and possible better over cranking performance.
