New cinemized Zeiss lenses from China

Some people really don't know the difference.
Years ago I pulled into a gas station to fill up my 79 512BB, and a couple came up and preceded to tell me that my kit car looked nothing like a real Ferrari.
Even after I opened the rear bonnet to let them see the 12 cylinder engine they still thought it was a Fiero kit car.

So as stupid as it may sound, I can see some less experienced filmmakers being fooled by these lens dresses.

But guys, their ad copy is so inspiring: these lenses will allow you to "reach your dream movie"...

(sniff, sniff, wipes tear)

Certainly. Just like there are less experienced filmmakers who think that a mattebox is there to "look cool" or "dress up the camera".

I've got a set of ZF's, and a set of CP's. For those who don't know, the CP's earn their price differential by being a completely different build. Proper cinema housings, even though the glass is the same.

Sticking a dress-up sleeve on the outside of a ZF won't turn it into a CP.

I'm sure there are folks who will get things like this under the idea that "they look more expensive and my client will never know the difference" but ... if building your relationship with your client is based on deception, then I'd ask to you think that one through long and hard.

Not bad at all...

I think they look good for what they are. Very clever shell on design. The price is what it should be. Maybe it's time to put some pressure on Zeiss and motivate them a little.....
Break that "lens cartel":Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)

The BB512 is my all time favorite short of the 60's cars. It still puzzles me why they had replaced it with the "ugly duckling" Testarossa....

Agreed. I'm a 50's and 60's kind of guy myself, but the Boxer was a neat car. Absolutely loved the sound of the webers behind your head.
Sadly I had to sell off most of my car collection to protect them from vandalism. I still have a 77 308 that was badly vandalized by neighbors that I have been searching for parts to repair it with.

The old China=Cheap=Bad=Crap reflex doesn´t always work today.
The company makes some nice hardware, that is absolutely in the same league with RED gear.
So they know how at least how to handle a CNC machine and make good coatings.

These are Zeiss ZF, ZE, ZK lenses, so they should perform like Zeiss ZF, ZE, ZK lenses (glass wise).
How good the cinemod is? We will know if someone tried them. Everything else is like reading tea leaves.

Are they decklicked? Long throw? Or is it just a nice sleeve?

Frank

Edit: Just saw that they charge an extra 47 bucks for decklicking.

why would you buy these over the Duclos cine modded lenses?

Well actually Duclos does the same thing, but for less money.

1. Adding a gear or two
2. Decklicking
3. Adding a step up ring

I have no idea but the same goes for CPs, well maybe the PL mount makes it worth it(for the CPs), but then, again, I know tons of people that never bothered with PL mounts on their CPs...

As a guy who has a set of Duclos cine-modded ZF's and also a set of CP's, there's not a doubt in my mind that the CP's are worth their price difference over the ZF's.

I haven't had a chance to use any CP.2's yet and I bet there's awesome. In someways I'm dreading it because I know that's all I'm going to want to use after :) I just meant in terms of price, I'd rather go with the Duclos modded lenses over the chinese knock-offs.

Yep, someone will come up with an Alexa slipcover for the T2i.
those would sell ike hotcakes. i remember another thread where they made this 'box' to put your dslr in, that made it look like a 'brain' module. I think that would sell like crazy. Like laptop skins. I mean for no use but aesthetic, but I know so many ppl who would go for making their gear look like more than it is.
