New cinemized Zeiss lenses from China

Look to be an outer housing attached to the Z series lens along with an aperture gear added.

Barry's comments are spot on.

I think they're crap.

Oh wait, all I did was look at the picture.

Okay, thought about it for two more seconds. The weight of the shell on the little lens housing, the lack of precision in the marks. The doubtful presision of the build. Let me re-address my opinion.

I REALLY think they're crap.

Thanks Mitch… But what if they throw in some knock-off Red Heads of dubious quality to sweeten the deal?

That is really, really dumb. And they seem so proud of it?!

I love it when the Chinese companies like this talks about patents, like that will stop any of a dozen other Chinese companies from ripping that off. And even if another Chinese company does then what's the point?

This amounts to a really big lens gear, except I guess that they made a one piece lens gear so that also gives you a place to clamp your mattebox- Oh wait, you can't clamp on your mattebox and FOCUS at the same time, because it will rotate if you focus. Ha! They even engraved in the footholds for a spanner wrench on the front, which serve no purpose.

"Each customed film lenses presented a Φ114mm rubber lens protector, General CP.2 Zeiss lens."

I wonder if Zeiss has a design patent on the look of their CP lenses, I would say that Cinematics is in violation.

I can't figure out who's they are hoping will buy this?

"Hey you! You wanted a cine lens but you don't want to spend the money, well buy this and make it LOOK like you have a cine lens!"

My condolences to those who are fooled in to buying this Wonder Bra, it won't help you get a date to the prom.

SO…. Who's gonna jump on this and tell us what they are like???

G.

Sounds like you're ready to be their first client!

No Illya, alas I'm not… I have some very nice ARRI -Zeiss PL Cine glass and a couple of RED zooms. My statement was made with a certain amount of scorn, derision and sarcasm (lost here on the boards unless you know / have worked with me), and in reference to the endless posts about needing / wanting cheaper 'cine' glass.

Cinematics is a good company for support rails and mattebox gear (for the price) - I own their 4x4 mattebox/french flag, shoulder pad, and a 15mm-rail mounted foregrip, and I've been happy with the fit and finish on them... however I wouldn't buy these rehoused Zeiss ZFs over the Nikon-mount versions for 1/2 to 1/3rd of the price! Definitely not an adventure that's worth my money.

ROFLT... that actually made me laugh. It's a shell just wrapped around the lens. theyre selling the "look" as a knockoff CP.2 lens. Too bad the mechanics will actually be no different.

Junk. Although I do wonder why the 100mm macro is 2 to 3 times higher than the others. In the CP.2 set it is more expensive but not to that extent.
