Hey fellow cinematographers just thought I would share this with you all. This summer marks exactly the 1 year mark for me fully supporting myself as a cinematographer.

I just finished my first montage reel with the help of my awesome friend and gaffer. One of the projects in it is two recent for me to unlock to the whole internet so there is a password on the video but I'll include it because I would love for you guys to check out the reel when you find a free minute.

Also I don't visit this site all to often until recently, so if If anyone is interested in my background I am 22 and studied at the school of the hard knocks. I learned while on set and from various mentors.

Thanks for watching!

looks great. I watched without sound. I think some shots are pointless in there though like 00.13 (pedestal up on the soldier) 01.49 (leaves blowing) are a couple I remember. But overall it looks great.

Thanks guys I really appreciate the kind words.

Also yea haha I totally agree there are a few shots that are just quickly there as a transition because they flow better with the music, reels are kind of a slave to the music some times if you want to stay on the beat. However next reel those quick transitions will be the first to go.

Thanks again for watching guys.

Cheers,

Graham

oh...cool. I couldn't watch with sound at the time but i got to concentrate on the visuals more anyway. Keep up the good work

Pssssst.... sharing your age might not necessary help. I was going to post constructive criticism but then i realized how young you are so i can be only positive and say "keep up good work!"

I like it. Nice range of shots. Interesting grades (especially with the sports themed advert?).

Probably the last stedicam shot of the guy knocking on the door and going up the stairs is a bit redundant as we have already seen a lot of him and those stairs in the reel (the opening steadicam shot of him coming down the stairs was very good by the way). But perhaps you wanted to have some circularity with the reel (him coming down at the beginning and going up at the end)?

What was that song by the way (its driving me nuts trying to place it)?!

Thanks for the feedback guys, yea I agree coming back to the stair shot is not necessary but I sure to love book ending stuff haha.

The song is called Outro by M83, if you have seen The Art of Flight its probably the most gorgeous documentary ever, and they did the soundtrack.

There is definitely stuff I plan to change in future reels, as I pick up more footage that I can swap it out with. However the fast cutting style unfortunately blows through footage so I need to shoot a few more projects in order to make the changes I want to make. Only think I am tweaking now is I am touching up a few things in resolve!

Cheers guys,

Graham Robbins

Do you accept apprentices? Haha but no really it looks great. I hope I can only be as half as good in 4 years when I'm your age.

starting at 18?? I am sure you will be better than me my friend thanks for the kind words. If your LA based Ill happily pull you onto a commercial or two.

Cheers,

Graham Robbins

Dude good work. I'm a year older and wish I would have been able to do the same. I am fully supporting myself as a sound mixer, and still do camera work but I hope some day I can ditch the sound and support myself strictly as a cinematographer. I live in orange county, not to far from Long Beach if you ever wanna meet up!

Awesome reel! I loved it, great editing too.

My only critiques are: at 1:00 it looks like a layer in the mountain composite pops on.
and at 1:02 there is some serious Rolling Shutter skew going on, it just screams DLSR footage. I'd try fix it (The Foundry has a rolling shutter fix you can rent for a day for super cheap, CS6 has a pretty good one as well) or remove the shot. It's really good footage and adds to your reel, but that much jello is really distracting (for me anyway).

Nice work!

Really impressive my friend...!
When I ll grow older I ll try to be as good as you are...!
Wait a minute...Im already 40...Damn...no time for me:crybaby:
