New Cinema EOS camera announcement

Nice! I hope it's a 2 megapixel stills camera that just so happens to also record proper 2 megapixel video...

I am going to sit this one out, I will be in my lair for the next few months, if anyone needs me, just kawl. Hope it all goes well.

(I may be around the picture styles forum off and on though.)

Shucks. I'm not sure, but I think I might be alllll "Canon"-ed out. A weee bit underwhelmed. Their incremental improvements are fine....but a little bit tiring. Barry has said this a million times....they're not the fastest horse out of the gates when it comes to adopting new tech. So...cheers to everyone watching this one!

I am going to guess a DSLR format Cinema EOS 1080p with pro connections and clean HDMI output,
priced in between the 1DX and C300.

I doubt they'd release a 4K DSLR that outperforms their C300 so soon, but who knows.
If the competition does so, they'd likely react, but they won't lead if the past is any indication...

Looks like the new Canon EOS 4K camera is about to be announced:

If it's the new 4K camera or even another type of 2K DSLR. NAB is for major announcements.- You can bet that there are multiple productions going on in the Los Angeles areas and abroad shooting with this new " mystery" camera for showcasing footage at NAB. Just as they did for the C300 and 5DMIII roll out, especially the C300 one at Paramount. I suggest people keep their eye's open and cell cameras ready for productions that look high scale and just happen to have a DSLR that isn't quite like the other Canon DSLR layouts.

^ could very well be that and some footage shot on the new canon cine glass that was previously announced... maybe?

I don't see anything that would compete with C300 just yet, unless it's huge. Like F65-esque huge.

The 5DmIII was nothing earth-shattering, so I am not expecting anything like that either.

Well its a screening. Could be just that. They did just announce the c300 and mk3...

Yep. Maybe Ron Howard's latest student film project. Who knows.

But it's funny: For an allegedly "conservative" company, Canon is getting good at operating a hype machine. I mean that as a compliment.

Or the reason that the 5DMIII was minus certain requested features over the past three years like Minus HDMI clean out, as well a few other things might be becuase there was another camera in the wings. Also the usual suspects were missing on the 5DMIII roll out who were part of the 5DMII roll out over three years ago. Some were connected to the C300 roll out that was at Paramount. Their absence from the 5DMIII was odd since it was the most anticipated camera I've ever seen. Well this just might be the reason. Attention is being focused squarely on this mystery now.

I have to say, I'm a bit bored with the new camera announcement every other month. Especially the watered down models (Which I'm guessing is most) that have the capabilities of so much more. I know it's how they generate revenue, And get the most out of a model. But none the less old.

And not to mention the price gouging. I mean, look what Pani put out for under 5k (af100). Aside from the sensor size, what does the c300 have that the af100 doesn't (feature wise,)?
Granted the IQ is different. But come on, I don't see any reason the c300 should be any more than 5k when they both developed these from scratch. I know If I don't like it, don't buy it. yeah, I get that, but as long as people feed in to the hype, they will only continue to do it, and more each time than the last.

I would love to see the community band together, and hit um where it hurts, Give them no choice, but to lower the price, or they don't sell. Sony's a perfect example of this. They didn't sell the expected amount of f3's, so they repackaged, and threw in slog, at a huge discount. They had no choice but to lower the price or risk being stuck with a warehouse full of dated cameras, and a loss.

There’s a chance we could see this “Mystery” before the announcement…….

it could be a much higher end c300. releasing anything that would undercut the c300 would be foolish.
i highly doubt it will be something better then the c300. i think it will be a stripped down version of the c300 without nd filters, c log and maybe a few other things.

And... you know what Peter? Jim Jannard has been the school for them. They became used to be in lurker mode on reduser in a daily basis. Who tells you this, heard that from the mouth of a top Canon rep FYI :-)
